Yunagi (U.N.C.F.-00885-2201) (ゆうなぎ, Yuunagi) is a Kongo Kai-class Space Battleship of the United Nations Cosmo Navy. It's the forty-seventh ship, classified as the 47th Squadron Leader, of the Second Escort Fleet.[3] The ship is captained by Lieutenant Susumu Kodai at the 8th Floating Continent Recapture Operation.
History
In December 2202, Yunagi and nine Kongo Kai-class Space Battleships, various Murasame Kai-class Space Cruisers, and ten Isokaze Kai-class Space Assault Destroyers participated in the Battle of the Eighth Floating Continent with the Garmillas Force Frontier Guard 38th Task Force in order to assist Garmillas forces in taking back the Garmillas 8th Floating Continent Base from a Gatlantis fleet. During the battle Yunagi managed to destroy several gatlantean vessels with hit-and-run attack tactics.[2]
After Andromeda fired its Wave-motion Gun and charged into the battlefield, an escaped Calaklum-class Battleship followed the warp signature of the damaged Saratoga and Defiant back to Earth. Yunagi also performed an emergency warp to catch up with the Calaklum who was heading to Earth with the intention of making a suicide run to crash into the UNCF Headquarters. Yunagi attempted to push the enemy ship from below to change its course, but was ineffective and eventually the Calaklum was destroyed by Yamato which fired its shock cannons from the dry dock where she was undergoing repairs.[2]
