Lieutenant Yuki Mori: initially Dr. Sado's nurse, Yuki gained the additional responsibilities aboard Yamato of operating the radar, performing computer calculations, taking care of the crew's morale and searching planets for food sources. She is from the outset attracted to Susumu Kodai, but conceals her true feelings with girlish glee. As the only significant female crewmember, she is also frequently the victim of fan service. Her name means "forest snow", it originates from a fan of Matsumoto's named Miyuki Moriki.[1] Her family name may come from Oda Nobunaga's favorite page, Mori Ranmaru.

She volunteers for duty in 2220 and is assigned to a Super Andromeda Class ship that is crippled during an ambush by forces of the SUS Empire. She orders an emergency warp, but the ship disappears for unknown reasons, and Mori is presumed dead.[citation needed]
