The Yamanami Fleet (YF), also known as the Andromeda Fleet,[4] the Earth Defense Force Reinforcement Unit, or the Dimensional-Wave Cannon Fleet,[5][6] was a fleet of the United Nations Cosmo Navy under the command of Captain Osamu Yamanami. It saw limited action during the Yamato Revolt and was later fully mobilized during the Battle of Saturn which saw the first mass mobilization of the Earth Federation's wave motion gun fleet used in battle. It had at least one subdivision, the 7th fleet.[3]
History[]
Early service[]
The Yamanami fleet's flagship Andromeda was launched during the 8th Floating Continent Operation on December 2, 2202,[4] and the other five Andromeda-class Starships which served in the fleet, Aldebaran, Apollo Norm , Achilles and Antares were launched on December 8 after a formal cerimony.[4][7][8]

By December 25,[2] the fleet was officially launched and it carried out a military exercise in at the Jupiter lagrangian point[9] together with the Lunar Air Corps. When the Yamamoto Team deserted the exercise to join the revolting space battleship Yamato, Apollo Norm's Air Corps was sent to deal with it, however thanks to the help of an agent of the Garmillas Empire Embassy on Earth, the rebels were able to escape. Later Andromeda herself was sent to stop Yamato, but due to the meddling of the Garmillan Loren Burrell, the battleship's actions were ratified by the Earth's government and Andromeda was recalled.[10][1]
The Gatlantis War[]

In May 2203, Gatlantis officially invaded the Solar system, the Earth Federation officially declared war on May 8[4] as the Gatlantean forces engaged the UNCN's Enceladus Defense Unit at Saturn. The Yamanami Fleet was sent to support the Enceladus Defense Unit and for two days the two sides remained blocked in a stalemate up until the gatlantean forces retreated to allow for the arrival of the White Comet. Yamanami ordered his fleet to unleash all of their Wave-motion guns in the enemy, but their cannons only menaged to temporarily dissolve the Comet's protective field leaving the structure intact. Gatlantis then unleashed its Hypergravity causing enormous demage to the Yamanami Fleet, Andromeda and Apollo Norm alongside multiple other ships were caught by the gravity field and were heavily demaged. Apollo Norm sacrificed itself to push the Andromeda outside of the Comet's gravity field, allowing the flagship to escape.[11][12]

The surviving forces joined up with the Ginga fleet and continue to fight the invaders during the Attack on the Annihilation Missile Fleet and the subsequent battle. The Aldebaran replaced the Andromeda as the feet's flagship.[3] At the same time Andromeda underwent extensive repairs and modifications in the Earth's time fault.[12]
Future[]
According to the history of the future told by Dezariam, a new Dimensional-Wave Cannon Fleet was eventually created by the Earth Federation and deployed to the North Galactic Region in 2256.[13]
