Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

Wave Motion is a technology heavily employed by the Earth Federation and gifted to them by the planet Iscandar in 2199. When it is used in an engine, it uses Tachyon Particles that always move faster than light in a wave motion pattern tapping into other dimensions for a near infinite supply. Tachyon Wave Motion technology can also be used in a very powerful weapon, known simply as the Wave Motion Gun. This weapon has the ability to destroy anything at least the size of Australia, albeit the infrastructure and machinery needed for it taking up most of a ship's bow area.

The harnessing of Tachyon Particle wave motion began long ago on the Planet Iscandar, twin planet of Gamillon. The Iscandarians once spread peacefuly throught the large Magellanic cloud with this technology until they were dethroned by the race living on their twin planet, the Gamillas. In the late 22nd century AD, after almost all Iscandarians were whiped out due to a catastrophic event, the Queen of Iscandar sent her two sisters to the Solar System with plans of how to build a wave motion engine and gun, as they were losing in a war to the Gamillas, wich were starting to expand into the Milky Way. This technology allowed Earthlings to reach Iscandar and pick up a device that would rid Earth of Gamillas radiation, on a reconstructed WWII Battleship Yamato. It must be noticed that Yurisha, one of the Queen's sisters, has said that they only sent the plans so that the Earthlings could build an engine, not a wave motion gun. When Captain Okita replies to this saying it will only be used for protection from the Gamillas and maybe other harmful races in the future, Urisha says that was the same thing the Gamillas said.

After the Earth-Gamillas war, wave motion technology as a weapon and propulsion played a valuable role in future conflicts the Earth would be involved in. By 2201 AD, smaller wave motion engines could be built that produced more power output, and two wave motion guns could be mounted on a single ship as seen on the space battleship Andromeda.

By the time of the Bolar-Gamillas-Earth war, a new form of wave motion weaponry, the Wave Motion cartridges, proved useful while the Yamato had Queen Mariposa of Guardiana on board and surrounded by the Bolar Main fleet. These cartridges can be loaded into standard artillery canons and fired like normal shock canon rounds, but use wave motion energy to detonate. This results in a higher explosive yield than a normal shock canon, but much less than the wave motion gun itself. A benefit of this weapon, however, is that firing it leaves the ship vulnerable for much shorter time than firing the actual wave motion gun. These cartridges were also used to destroy Leader Lugal's flagship in the Deinguil-Earth war (Final Yamato).
