The Wave-motion Gun fleet plan[1] was the Earth Federation's[2] plan for the rearmament of the United Nations Cosmo Navy using warships equipped with Wave-motion Guns. The plan was highly controversial as was its abbandonment six months after the fall of Gatlantis, but it proved to be instrumental in the defense of Earth and the solar system during the Gatlantis Campaign.
History[]
The plan was announced in 2201,[3] following the discovery of the time fault, a pocket dimension where time flowed 10 times faster than in the rest of the universe. It went against a clause in the Earth Iscandar Treaty of Amity and Garmillas-Earth Interim Agreement which forbid the military usage of the Wave-motion theory.[4] This clause had been imposed by Queen Stasha of Iscandar in accord with Admiral Okita of the battleship Yamato in 2199 during their negotiations to recieve the Cosmo Reverse System. However, officials of the Earth claimed that Okita did not have the necessary plenipotentiary authority to negotiate on behalf of the Earth's leadership, thus the accord was considered null.[5][6]
The plan was supported mainly by General Kotetsu Serizawa and United Nations Forces General Commanding Director Heikuro Todo, but was opposed by Yamato's former crew and by Admiral Ryu Hijikata, Commander of Space Defense Command and long-time best friend of Okita. For his insubordination, in 2202[7] the UNCF removed Hijikata from his post and exiled him to the 11th planet of the Solar system to take command of the Outer Defense Division.[4][8][9]
The construction of ships according to Wave-motion Gun fleet plan was mainly based in a top secret automated shipyard inside of the time fault. Resources gathered by the Transport Fleet were secretly diverted from the reconstruction efforts toward the development of new warships.[10] By December 2, 2202,[11] the first ship of the Andromeda-class, Andromeda, had been completed and made her debut in the 8th Floating Continent Recapture Operation.[9] After the Andromeda-class ships, production continued with the construction and launch of the Dreadnought-class, the backbone of the new Cosmo Navy,[12] and the Patrol ship, and Escort ship, two smaller classes meant for even greater mass production.[1][13] Eventually, the Kongo-class battleship was modified and equipped with a small wave-motion gun, resulting in the development of the Kongo Kai II.[14] As time went on, especially with the onset of the Gatlantis Empire's invasion of the Solar system, ships produced in the time fault began to be crewed singlehandedly by AIs, with more advanced vessels needing only one human officer to control an entire fleet.[15][16] On top of the new warship classes developed, the Wave-motion Gun fleet plan included the CT plan, a program aimed at developing the UNCN new mainstay carrier-based fighter.[17]
Wave-motion ship production continued months after the end of the war with Gatlantis. Production was halted in late December 2203[11] following an Earth Federation referendum on whether to sacrifice a time fault to save Commanders Yuki Mori and Susumu Kodai from the goddess Teresa's Higher Dimension. Following the abandonment of the fault and the Wave-motion Gun fleet plan, the Earth Federation moved towards optimizing its military to the scale of the Earth.[18][19]
