Uzume was the code-name of a two-person United Nations Cosmo Navy team composed of Ensigns Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima, formed for Operation M.

Uzume's base on Mars
Uzume was created in late 2198[1] for Operation M. Ensigns Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima were to wait on Mars for the arrival of code-name "Amaterasu", which unbeknownst to them, was an Iscandarian ship carrying Princess Sasha of Iscandar. The alien brought with her a Wave-motion Core, necessary to activate the Earth's first Wave-motion Engine.[2][3]

The two officers landed on Mars on December 26[1] and established a temporary base within the ruins of Arcadia Port.[2] On January 17, 2199,[4] the UNCN First Fleet engaged with the Garmillan Teron Attack Force space fleet near Pluto to distract the enemy forces and allow safe passage for the Iscandarian. However, Amaterasu encountered engine problems while entering Mars's atmosphere. The ship crashlanded and Sasha was killed by the impact, but despite her death, the Wave-motion Core was successfully retrieved.[2]
Kirishima, the last surviving ship of the First Fleet, retrieved Uzume and returned on Earth on February 8.[4] Two days later, the Cosmo Navy announced Program Yamato and on February 11,[4] Shima and Kodai were officially transferred to the Project, effectively dissolving Uzume.[1][2][3]

- Like all code-names used in Operation M, Uzume comes from Japanese mythology particularly from Amaterasu's story.[2] Specifically, Uzume's name comes from Ame-no-Uzume.
