The Uprising on Prison Camp 17,[3] also known as the Revolt on Prison Planet Leptapoda,[4] was a revolt and major event in both the Garmillas Civil War and the Great Garmillas War. It signed the beginning of Admiral Gul Ditz's rebellion against the Desler administration and it created the first basis of formal alliances between the people of Garmillas and those of Earth.
Prelude[]
Political prisoners[]

Ditz was improned on Leptapoda
In the months beforehand the Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik had devised a plot to sieze control of the Greater Garmillan Empire by staging an assassination of its Leader, Abelt Desler, and putting the blame on Admiral Ditz of the Astro Fleet and General Elk Domel, who were promptly arrested. However Desler would escape the assassination attempt and he'd reveal Zoellik's treachery as he was addressing his troops, leading him to be publicly executed during the Battle of Balun.[5]
In the aftermath of the battle Domel would be freed, but Ditz would remain in prison.[2][6] However following the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel Kaulles Helder, one of Ditz's close allies, the Admiral's daughter, Merda Ditz, would be contacted by two of her father's loyalists and together they began planning to free the Gul Ditz from imperial custody.[6]
Yurisha's attempted kidnapping[]

A Zaltzi platoon mistakenly kidnapped Mori
Following Zoellik's death Domel was tasked with a special mission to destroy the Earth battleship Yamato, however as the Empire's Minister of Propaganda had come to know after a pevious attack on the ship, Yamato was carrying on board Princess Yurisha Iscandar, whom Leader Desler wished to use to achieve the unification of his empire with Iscandar's . For this reason during the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster, the dimensional submarine UX-01 carried a platoon of second class soldiers to kidnap the princess, but since the information they had been given on Yurisha had been currupted at the end of the previous attack, they accidentally kidnapped Yamato's operation officer Yuki Mori instead of the iscandarian.[6][7]
Forces converging[]
Following Mori's retrival the UX-01 escaped the battlefield and began to journey back towards Garmillas, but made a stop at Leptapoda, one of the Empire's prison planets, the same one where Ditz had been incarcerated. At that time Merda Ditz and her collaborators had disguised as inspectors from Imperial HQ and neared Leptapoda to set their plans in motion.[2]

Yabu, Itou, Yurisha and Kodai were captured by Leptapoda's staff
Coincidentally Yamato also made a stop at the planet in order to resupply the materials needed for repairs. Lieutenant Kodai, the ship tactics officer, was sent with a Seagull on a recon mission to the planet's surface and was quickly joined by the real Yurisha who, due to a special psychic connection with Mori, knew that the captured officer was on the Prison Planet. Unbeknownst to the pair however, Shinya Itou and Sukeji Yabu, two mutineers which had escaped Yamato's brig after the ship was demaged at the Rainbow Star Cluster, and thus didn't know of Yurisha's reappearance and mistook her for Mori, had sneaked aboard the Seagull, and tried to hold Kodai and the Princess at gun point. The resulting commotion lead Yabu to accidentally shoot at the Seagull's main console, causing the plane to crashland on Leptapoda and the group to be captured by the prison guards.[2][8]
The Uprising[]

Colonel Debarzo Bosen, the commandant of the prison camp, immediately noticed the similarity between Yurisha and the "iscandarian princess" he had been presented. He rushed towards the group of prisoners to understand what was happening.[2]
At that moment the Ditz loyalists began their attack. A prison guard loyal to the deposed Admiral opened the prisoners' cells and began arming them, at the same time Merda Ditz and her forces descended on Leptapoda aboard a Gaiderol-class astro battleship, immediately arresting Bosen and moving in to free Merda's father.[2]

Ditz's speech
Yurisha, who was going to be interrogated by Bosen, was separated from the rest of the group. She was freed by Itou and the two moved in to go and help Mori. However the Lieutenant Junior Grade was cought in the crossfire and killed by a prison guard. Kodai was in turn separated by Yabu but menaged to reach the Camp's control room. Despite sighting Morì, who was being taken away by her personal guard towards the UX-01, he was unable to free her from her captors. Immediately after being freed, Ditz and his men took control of the Camp's PA system. He identified himself and stated the prison was under his and his men's control. He commanded all remaining prison guards to cease all futile resistance and surrender.[2]
Aftermath[]
Immediately after Ditz made his speech Yurisha found Kodai and told him that she now knew where the dimensional submarine was bringing Mori: planet Garmillas homeworld of the Greater Garmillan Empire, which the Princess revealed being the double planet of Iscandar, Yamato's ultimate destination.[2]

The meeting between Ditz's forces and Yamato's officers
By the time the dust settled Ditz's forces and the former prisoners had complete control over the prison camp, all remaining guards were rounded up and put into custody. On the same day as the uprising,[9] the rebels made contact with Yamato and a meeting was held between the two sides. Immediately putting aside all their differences proved impossible, but a non aggression pact was agreed upon. In addition Yamato recieved plenty of valuable information on the destination of their journey, the nature of the relationship between Iscandarians and Garmillans, and the inner working of the Empire as well as its political instability. Merda Ditz, who had previously met with Yamato on another occasion, remained aboard the battleship to serve as a liason, she would prove a valuable ally for the earthlings in the coming battle against Desler.[10]
In the following days Ditz departed from Leptapoda in order to go and liberate other prison planets, he was joined by Elisa Domel, the wife of the deceased General, who was also being kept prisoner on the planet.[10]

Mori being presented to Desler
After its escape the UX-01 menaged to reach Garmillas and Mori was presented to Desler and his staff. One of his ministries immediately understood that the Lieutenant was not the real Yurisha, but the Leader did not care much for the situation, as for his schemes to work he only needed the people to think he had recieved the approval of the princess.[10]
Yabu remained stuck on Leptapoda where he menaged to pass as a Zaltzi, a species extremely similar to the Terrans. He would eventually become a full fledged citizen of the empire and, following the end of the war, he'd go on to serve aboard the UX-01 during the Garmillas Civil War, the Gatlantis Campaign and the Iscandar Incident. Officially, the UNCF marked him as having been killed in action.[10][11][12][13][14]
