By 2198,[2] The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs was tasked with overseeing the six continents and the various UN administrative areas, presumably due to the destruction of most United Nations-affiliated organizations due to the ongoing bombing of the Earth.[1][3]
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs was also in charge of the Orbital Security Agency.[2]

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) exists in real life, it's an office of the U.N. Secretariat that promotes and facilitates peaceful international cooperation in outer space.[4]
In real life, the formal Japanese name of the UNOOSA uses the extended form of the name United Nations (国際連合, Kokusai Rengō),[5] while in Star Blazers 2199, the office uses the shortened Japanese name for the UN (国連, Kokuren).[2]
