The Type 5 Space Mobile Armor is a Earth Federation Cosmo Marines mobile armor developed by incorporating operational data from the Type 2 Space Mobile Armor into the high-mobility plan for armored spacesuits advanced by the Engineering Division.

The Type 5 Space Mobile Armor was created to be used by infantrymen who mainly handle anti-material firearms for anti-space mobile weapons with emphasis is placed on trench warfare performance and space mobility performance. Mobility on land is improved by using the momentum wheels equipped on the back together with the crawler on the legs. During space maneuvers, high-speed rotation of the wheels and movable arms are used together, and high stealth is achieved through attitude control through mass balance.

History

The Type 5 Space Mobile Armor was developed in 2205 by integrating operational data from the Type 2 Space Mobile Armor into the high-mobility plan for armored spacesuits advanced by the Engineering Division. The first batch of Type-5 Mobile Armor were given to the 65th Escort Corps' Space Cavalry 65th Special Task Force under the command of Second Lieutenant Shiori Nagakura.

The Mobile Armors were first deployed during a training excercise with space battleship Yamato's air corps around Saturn's moon Titan, they were later used during and after the Rescue of Iscandar to carry out a relief mission to the Garmillas Immigration Fleet. Warrant Officer Caroline Raiden later used her own Type 5 Space Mobile Armor in a rescue mission during the Rescue Operation for Leader Desler.

By 2207, the Type 5 Space Mobile Armor has become the main mobile weapon of the Space Cavalry.
