Tsubasa Kato (加藤翼, Katō Tsubasa) is the son of Yamato's former air corps chief Saburo Kato.

Tsubasa is the son of Yamato's former head nurse Makoto Kato and her husband, ace pilot Saburo Kato. While still a newborn he contracted the Planet Bomb Syndrome and his parents transferred him to a facility on the moon, in hopes of slowing down the desease's symptoms.[1]
His condition progressively worsend through 2202 and 2203, leading Kato to take many leaves from his job as instructor of the Lunar Air Corps.[1]
He was miraculously cured when his father sacrificed Yamato in order to gift the Earth with a cure for the deadly syndrom which had been developed by Gatlantis; Tsubasa was thus dicharged from the lunar hospital and was evacuated from Earth's satelite on a Kongo-class Space Battleship.[3][4]
After the end of the Gatlantis Campaign the young Tsubasa continued to grow in good health.[5] Together with his mother, he assisted to Yamato's take off for Iscandar in October 2205.[6]

Personality[]
Tsubasa has had a passion for Yamato and airplanes since a very young age, after being cured from the Planet Bomb Syndrome he has become a very heatlhy and energetic kid[5]
