"Toward a Sea of Stars" is the second episode in Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and of its first chapter, "The Long Journey". It was released in Japan on April 7, 2012.

Synopsis

The crew of Earth's new space battleship prepares to undertake an unprecedented journey beyond the solar system.

Analysis

• The prologue of Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark depicts a UN Cosmo Marine base on the Moon following an assault by "carrier-based fighters." It is likely that the fighters were launched by the same Polmeria-class carrier that discovered and attacked the Yamato launch site, on its way to Earth.
• Nations and blocs of nations still exist in some form on the ruined Earth in 2199. In addition to the UN secretary general, the United Nations Cosmo Force leadership communicates with representatives of the European Union, the United States of America (labeled "USA" on a command center monitor but identified as the "North American Representative" in episode credits), and the Middle East.
