An incorrect translation?[]
Going only by English captions, Dessler says, "Humans are foolish and submissive creatures." I don't understand Japanese so I can't confirm the word "humans" with the original spoken dialogue, but Sparduck's revision got me thinking that it might be a mistranslation--that it should have been "people" instead of "humans." Throughout the episode, Garmillans consistently use the word "Terrons," so it would be odd to switch at this point. The fact that we're hearing Dessler over views of Garmillan citizens makes it even more suspicious. Can anyone check the original Japanese? -- BlueResistance (talk) 15:22, February 1, 2015 (UTC)
- I just made the change to avoid confussing people since when we think human we think terron, and the populas of Garmillas is comprised of humanoid creatures, so I only changed the prequote to what I figured Dessler was refering to. Johnatha (talk) 22:41, February 1, 2015 (UTC)
- Find something to verify a guess before posting it. Right now, our guess may be correct and it may not be, but we need more evidence before it's strong enough to go into the article. For the moment, it's just a hypothesis, and the only clear evidence that we have is for the word "human," from the caption. Besides, you changed the description to "Garmillas Empire's people" and left the word "human" in Dessler's quotation, which is likely to be more confusing to readers.
- Correct or incorrect translation may not be the only two options. It might turn out that the word for "human" was actually used in the dialogue, which would mean it was a mistake on the part of the original Japanese episode writer who forgot to put the word "Terron" into the script at that point. Whatever the case, once we get a clear answer, there might be a need to write a note about the issue in the Behind the Scenes section. -- BlueResistance (talk) 00:21, February 2, 2015 (UTC)
- I finished chatting with someone about the Japanese dialogue in the episode, and although the word (人間, ningen) is technically "human," the meaning is closer to the English word "people" rather than a specific species reference, as you suspected. -- BlueResistance (talk) 04:14, February 27, 2015 (UTC)
