Andromeda is carried by two Dreadnought-classes in a TAG system formation
The TAG (Tug Around Galaxy) is a system used by UNCN to connect to large ships with gravity anchors and allow warping without the use of a main power reactor.
Technical specifications[]
The TAG system utilises gravity anchors to link a large ship to two smaller ships, augmenting manouverability and power. By using a trans-warp linkage the two smaller ships can make the larger one warp without activating its main reactor.[1][2][3]
History[]
This method was first used by Laboratory Aquarius (AAA-07) using 2 C classes. This method was reused at the end of the Battle of Saturn by using 2 Dreadnought-Class Vanguard Starships each to evacuate four of the surviving Andromeda-class Armed Vanguard Starships and to help Andromeda get back to Earth after being damaged. This method was later used in the Decisive Battle off Mars by the Andromeda Fleet YF-2203 with huge military gains.[1][2][3][4]
Behind the scenes[]
While the TAG appears on screen, its name and relation to the Laboratory Aquarius are only mentioned on the non-canon magazine Scale Aviation and on the Document Andromeda 2202 DX, which specifically isn't meant to describe the world of the story. This means those details may or may not be considered canon.[4]
