Stravase was a volcanic planet located 18,000 light years from the solar system.[1] In late 2202, it became the stage of a battle between the Gatlantis Empire, the Earth Federation and the Destruction Liberation Army, which resulted in its collapse.
Overview[]
Stravase was a planet with a volcanic terrain and abundant ores,[1] and lava rivers. Despite its harsh environment, the planet had a breathable atmosphere. It had a purple ring that orbited around it.[2] The most distinguishing features of Stravase were two massive crystalline structures that extended from opposite sides of the planet. These could be seen from a distance of thousands of kilometers away. To keep the planet somewhat stable, the crystals' mass was kept in an adjacent dimension, with only their volume displayed in regular space, making them appear like 3D projections. Even with this measure, the planet was still unstable and could collapse if hit by heavy bombardment.[1][2]
History[]

The ruins seen from above
In ancient times, the ancient Archelias built structures on Stravase. These geometric-shaped buildings were decorated with a mural of the goddess Teresa sitting over the Ark of Destruction.[2][3]

The Archelians eventually disappeared, and their structures were abandoned and fell into ruin. By 2201,[4] their existance was known to the Garmillas. The Earthling professor Robert Redrowz heard about the ruins and tried to get the UNF's support to organize an expedition.[5] His expedition was halted in late 2202, just before it set out, by Admiral Ryu Hijikata of the Outer Defense Division, who demanded to inspect all equipment before sending Redrowz out.[6] On December 24,[7] however, the 11th planet, where the professor was stationed, was attacked by the Gatlantis Empire, and all of the planet's refugees were taken in by the battleship Yamato and traveled to Stravase, where they were to be entrusted to a Garmillas patrol fleet and brought back to the Earth. Unbeknownst to the Earthlings, Gatlantis had turned some of the civilians, including Redrowz, into living dead bodies. Redrowz was used by Great Emperor Zworder of Gatlantis to communicate to the battleship's commanding officer, while the other corpses were detonated to make the Garmillan ships fall onto the planet.[2][3][6]

During Stravase's collapse, the crystals started to cave in
As these events unfolded, a battle broke out between two Garmillas rebel organizations. The fighting culminated in the detonation of multiple Interplanetary ballistic missiles, making the already unstable Stravase collapse. The planet's collapse generated a black hole, which opened a tunnel to another dimension and began sucking in all of Stravase's mass. Yamato fired its Wave-motion Gun at the planet's corruption point, overloading the singularity and reversing its gravity, allowing the ships that were falling to their death to drift away while Stravase disappeared.[3][8]
In the novels[]
In the Space Battleship Yamato 2202 novelization Stravase's history is more detailed. The planet itself and the space surrounding it were considered a remnant of the Archelias civilization as they had used them as a testing ground, resulting in the world's unique properties. The ruins on the surface were not Archelian but built by a later civilization. It's speculated that the ruins were erected in response to a message by Teresa with their architects wanting to warn future civilizations about the future threat of the Ark of Destruction. For this reason, the structures were constructed on the unique planet, hoping it would draw the attention of future travelers.[9]
While the phenomenon and the countermeasures adopted by Yamato during Stravase's collapse are essentially the same, the event is described in more detail. It's explained that as the planet collapsed, its mass began traveling to the adjacent dimension, and the Wave-motion Gun was used to inject more mass, thus exceeding the teleportation limit.[10]
