Star Blazers Chronicle 2202, known in Japan as The Era of Space Battleship Yamato: Choice of 2202 (『宇宙戦艦ヤマト』という時代 西暦2202年の選択, "Uchū Senkan Yamato" to Iu Jidai Seireki 2202-nen no Sentaku), is a recap film that compiles Yamato 2199 and Yamato 2202 with new scenes[1]

The movie serves as a documentary-styled recap for Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Space Battleship Yamato 2202, the fictional documentary is presented by a narrator and Shiro Sanada. The documentary mostly follows the event of the first two series and the movie Ark of the Stars, but its opening minutes focus on events preceding those shown in 2199 and 2202.
The documentary begins with President John F. Kennedy's speech about the moon landing, and shows the take off of the Apollo 11 mission. It then moves to the restauration of the wreck of the original Yamato in 2141 and its re-sinking following a cerimony for the 200th anniversary since the end of WW2 in 2145.
Then, shots of the Martian Autonomous Government Space Navy and the creation of the UNCN's first ships are shown, with the narrator describing the start and end of the Inner Planetary Wars and how the marsnoids reverse engineered alien technology to create their space warships.
Following this are a series of shots describing the start of the Great Garmillas War and the Second Battle of Mars. Afterwards, the documentary begins retelling the story of Space Battleship Yamato 2199
The documentary ends with Sanada reflecting on Yamato's journey to Terezart
Behind the Scenes[]
The movie was announced on the official Yamato 2202 Website on the 22nd of October of 2020, the same day, the first trailer for the movie was also published.[2] Originally it was supposed to be released on January 15, 2021, but due to the COVID 19 pandemic it was postponed[3] and released on June 11, 2021[4]. The same day it hit the theaters, a Blu-ray Disc and digital release came out.
