The Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf irregular galaxy orbiting the Milky Way along with its distant and larger companion, the Large Magellanic Cloud.
By the year 2199, the Small Magellanic Cloud had mostly came under the rule of a Large Magellanic Cloud power, the Greater Garmillan Empire, and it had become key to the empire's overall defenses. Control of the Cloud was contested by the Gatlantis Empire[1][2][3]. The Gatlantis recognized Goran "Thunder" Dagam as the Grand Chief Commissioner of the area, while Garmillas considred it a province of their empire and recognized Garis Noropp as its provincial governor.[4][5][6]
The Small Magellanic Cloud was called Gutaba by the Gatlantis Empire.[4] The name Gutaba was also used by an expeditionary force personally led by Dagam[5].
