Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

Captain Shuntaro Yasuda (安田俊太郎, Yasuda Shuntarō) was an officer serving in the United Nations Cosmo Navy, and the commanding officer of the Andromeda-class carrier Apollo Norm during the Gatlantis Campaign.

History[]

Early Life[]

Yasuda prepared to be an officer at the National Space Defense Academy, studying in the same class as Osamu Yamanami and becoming a lifetime friend of Yamanami. During his service, Yasuda fought in the Second Inner Planetary War alongside Yamanami. Late in the Garmillas War, he was also a friend of fellow officers Juzo Okita, Ryu Hijikata, and Tetsutaro Ozaki.[1][4]

The Gatlantis Campaign[]

At the Battle of Saturn in 2203, Yasuda commanded Apollo Norm and was part of the effort to repel an invasion by forces of the Gatlantis Empire. Late in the battle, ships of the UNCN fleet were sent out of control by Gatlantis' supergravity, followed soon by Annihilation Missile that incapacitated many UNCN ships including Apollo Norm and Yamanami's ship, Andromeda. Seeing this, Yasuda direct Apollo Norm to soft collided with Andromeda. Yasuda made the decision to deplete his own carrier's engines in an effort to push the more severely damaged Andromeda far enough away to escape on its own, ignoring Yamanami's horrified realization of Yasuda's fate. Once Apollo Norm's thrusters failed and the ship tumbled away toward its destruction, Yasuda stood and saluted Yamanami.[2]

Behind the Scenes[]

Shuntaro Yasuda's face appears to be that of Shuichi Yasuda, president of the Japanese branch of sports and casual clothing manufacturer Under Armour, which was a corporate sponsor of the Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love series.[5] He is voiced by Isao Sasaki in Japanese and by Gregory Lush in English.[2]
