An analytic mind is the strongest weapon, but it has its limitations
—Shiro Sanada
Commander Shiro Sanada (真田志郎, Sanada Shirō) is an Earth Federation Cosmo Navy officer. He currently serves as the head of the observation team for the Iscandarian-Earthling hybrid girl Sasha Iscandar Kodai, the daughter of his deceased best friend, Mamoru Kodai.
During the Great Garmillas War, he served in the Far-East District Staff Office Strategy Department 9th Section and worked on Program Yamato. In 2199, he was assigned to the space battleship Yamato as its Executive Officer and Technology Officer during its journey to Iscandar. In 2202, he received a message from the goddess Teresa of Terezart and boarded Yamato again to fight against the Gatlantis Empire. After the war with Gatlantis, he played a key role in the political movement to rescue Yamato's commanding officer, Susumu Kodai, and his fiancée Yuki Mori.
Following the founding of the 65th Escort Corps, Sanada was transferred to the modified Dreadnought-class Battlecarrier Hyuga to serve as its captain. He joined the corps on its peace mission to the Salezar system, and eventually fought against Dezariam when the fleet became entangled in the Iscandar Incident. After his return to Earth, he was dismissed from his post, and would eventually be re-assigned back onboard the Yamato stationed at the Icarus facility due to Operation DAD, having been tasked with developing technology needed to detect cloak Dezarian ships.
