This article is about the Salezar system from Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and its sequels. For its counterpart from the original Space Battleship Yamato and its sequels, see Sanzar system.
The Salezar system is the star system home of the Garmillas and Iscandarians. It consists of the star Salezar and five planets orbiting it, including the double planets Garmillas and Iscandar and the ringed gas giant Epidora. It was the seat of the Greater Garmillan Empire and the Iscandarian civilization.
Overview[]
The Salezar system is a star system situated in the Large Magellanic Cloud. It's composed of all objects orbiting the low mass M-type dwarf Salezar. The system has five planets, including the double planets Garmillas and Iscandar in the third orbit, and the ringed gas giant Epidora in the fourth.[1][2][3]
History[]
The Era of Iscandar[]
In ancient times the Salezar system was visited by the Archelias civilization, which seeded planet Iscandar, leading to the development of the Iscandarian race. They were the first human species to develop, and they built a great empire that brought war to the Large Magellanic Cloud. Their conquest was fueled by the desire to entomb as many lives as possible into a vault named the Sanctel, where they would exist in a static, eternal life crystalized in a wave-motion form. At some point, the Iscandarians entered Sanktel themselves, instead opting to bring a race from outside Salezar to continue their campaigns and gift them with a new homeworld in the form of Iscandar's twin planet, they chose to export the Galman from their world. This was due to their inability to exist outside a habitat identical to their home planet. By turning Iscandar's twin into an exact copy of planet Galman, they had ensured that their servant race, which they decided to name Garmillas, would never leave their side.[4][5][6]
The Era of Garmillas[]
Millennia later, Garmillas established itself as an intergalactic superpower surpassing Iscandar's fading empire. The planet was unified into the Garmillas Grand Duchy in 2174, which was later transformed into the Greater Garmillan Empire. In the second half of the 22nd century, the leadership of the planet discovered that their world only had about a century left before an upcoming planetary collapse. Unbeknownst to them, this was due to the modifications that Iscandar had forced onto the planet centuries before. To find a planet suitable for colonization, the empire began expanding through massive campaigns, eventually encountering planet Earth in the Milky Way and starting a bloody war against its inhabitants to take control of it.[7][8][9]
In 2199 the Earth battleship Yamato arrived in Salezar. To sink it Garmillan Supreme Leader, Abelt Desler, used an experimental weapon of mass destruction, accidentally destroying Epidora instead. Yamato managed to topple his regime in the resulting battle, leading to the instauration of a new provisional government which began to steer the empire towards democracy.[10][11][12]
Dezarium's attack[]
In late 2205, Garmillas fell under the attack of a mysterious alien faction known as Dezariam, leading to the premature destruction of the planet. Dezariam intended to take away Planet Iscandar and bring it to their homeland. Queen Stasha Iscandar refused to allow this and used the planet's self-destruct mechanism against the invaders. By the end of the conflict, the Salezar system remained with only two Planets instead of the five that orbited less than ten years prior.[13][14][15]
