I want to be human, too. No matter what fate awaits us. Until my last moment.
—Saki Todo, to Heikuro Todo, [2]
Saki Todo (藤堂早紀,Tōdō Saki) is an Earthling Earth Federation Cosmo Navy officer serving as captain of the experimental wave-motion ship Ginga. She is the daughter of Commander Heikuro Todo and Chiaki Todo.
As captain of the Ginga, she led the Earth forces during the attack on the annihilation missile fleet against the Gatlantis Empire, and played a central role in Project G and its eventual deactivation.
Following the Gatlantis Campaign, she used the Ginga to repair the moon. Around 2207, she led the ship as the flagship of the Saturn Repair Fleet.
As Dezarium invaded Earth in October of the same year, she used the Ginga to help former Yamato fleet crew members to escape toward the Icarus Observatory. However, her ship crash-landed on Baleras III before she could join with her father's anti-Dezariam task force. aer wnd her crew were ffered asylum by Galman-Garmillas amabassador Loren Burrell. With her ship confiscated by Dezariam, Saki currently waits on the moon ans watches the situation on Earth develop.
Early life[]

Saki Todo , before it could join with the was born on Earth on November 14, 2176. She lived happily with her family until 2193 when the Greater Garmillan Empire began its bombing of Earth.
Probably due to her father Heikuro's important position within the United Nations, the Todo family was among the first to be evacuated to the underground cities. Due to this Chiaki's mental health had a rapid decline which culminated in her committing suicide on April 20, 2193.[3]
The Gatlantis Campaign[]
During the Gatlantis campaign taking place 2202 to 2203, Saki Todo first served as captain of laboratory Prometheus overseeing the time fault. Upon it's completion, she would be transferred and become captain of the Wave-motion test ship Ginga.[4] The Ginga carrying the cosmo reverse was sent to the frontlines against Gatlantis and picked up survivors from the Space battleship Yamato while protecting the heavily damaged Andromeda by deploying a powerful wave motion shield. Saki told the advancing forces that "You won't pass, Gatlantis!" while standing aboard the bridge.[5]
She later greeted former Yamato crew members Shiro Sanada, Daisuke Shima, Yoshikazu Aihara, Kenjiro Ota and Yasuo Nanbu aboard the Ginga's bridge and invited them into the central operations room. Saki detailed them about the plan to ambush an incoming fleet and prevent them from destroying Gamilan anti-warp shields, preventing the white comment from warping towards earth. She explained that the former Yamato crew members would be taking part by controlling the Ginga so that the "command AI" located inside the time fault and uploading new data to the Ginga, could grow faster and surpass human experience and knowlage. She further explained that it was necessary in order for the G-plan to work.[5]
At the start of the operation, the command AI proposed the activation of the cosmo reverse and to start the operation. Saki Todo accepts and ordered the Ginga and surrounding dreadnaughts to maximum speed. Shima is astounded by the Gingas capability to control wave motion and amplify other ships shields to which Saki respods that part of the Ginga was inherited from the Yamato and despite the fact that the cosmo reverse can no longer revive a planet, it is still the best tool for controlling wave motion energy.[5]
During the ambush, the Command AI proposed to send in blackbird unmanned aircraft to drop wave-motion cores and bombard the enemy, believing that long range bombardment with wave-motion guns from the escort dreadnaughts would be ineffective at their current size. Saki considered the proposal and hesitantly accepted the plan. As the blackbirds alongside Saburo Kato engaged the enemy Saki continued to explain that if they hold out for 10 days, the time fault would have long enough to produce 100 days worth of warships which in turn could hold out for another 10 days. She further explained that if they repeat the process it wouldn't matter how strong the enemy was.[5]
Shima interrupted to explain that she should think of the people needed to man the ships, but she dismissed his point by stating that with the current development of the command AI within the time fault, unmanned vessels would soon become a reality. Not only unmanned ships, but also cloning would soon become possible thanks to further research of captured Gatlantean soldiers.[5]
As the operation continued, Yuria Hoshina alerted the crew that the wave-motion cores dropped by the blackbirds were being targeted and destroyed. The command AI proposed an emergency order to detonate the wave-motion cores immedietly without allowing the blackbirds to retreat to which Saki Todo remained silent, allowing Sanada who realized what her answer would be and ordered Saburo Kato to escape. Saki accepted the proposal and using wave resonance, detonates the bombs early, destroying the enemy fleet but also blackbirds that were unable to escape.[5]
The former Yamato crew believed that the whole ordeal insane but both Megumi and Saki explained that sanity does not win wars and that they must eliminate whatever is unusefull and secure a swift victory. As Saki is about to explain the G plan to the others, she was interrupted by Kaoru Niimi who told her that she understands her way of thinking, given her mothers history. Saki told her to not get her parents involved, stating that they have nothing to do with it. She believed that the weak would simply perish and that humanity learned that during the war with Gamilas.[5]
Once the White comet began to move further towards Earth. Saki quickly ordered to establish contact with the Mars defensive line and to inform them of the incoming danger. As the White comet moved past her and the rest of the fleet, she looked towards it with a heavy expression.[6] She later thought about her past and her mothers weakness, tellling herself that if gentleness and humanity can kill people she would rather abandon it all together to survive.[3]
The Command AI eventually took control of the Ginga and warped back to Jupiter as casualties exeed 50%. Uninterrupted, Sanada decided to ask what the G plan was to which Saki and the Ginga crew explained that it involves modifying human bodies while trying to keep noral genes intact so that if the worst came, they would leave earth for a new planet. The Yamato crew are horrified and Niimi even questioned the probability of the plan succeeded. She explained that it's very hard to artificially clone a human, even more so as the Ginga does not posses a laberatory onboard. Saki further explained that there was a reason for the crew being all female and that it was all necessary for the survival of mankind. Shima is disgusted by the details of the plan and asked if they really had to take it that far.[3]
Just then, the Ginga recieved a message from Osamu Yamanami aboard the Andromeda kai, who states that he discovered the Yamato trying to escape the white comet but is caught in the intense gravity being emitted. He pleads for all ships to aid in the Yamato's escape as he heads for the white comets gravity well in an attempt to destroy it. Kanzaki responded that the Andromeda Kai would not be enough to destroy it, to which Sanada proposed that with the use of the Ginga's cosmo reverse to strengthen the andromeda's wave motion it could give enough power to destroy the gravity well. The command AI argued that it would put to much strain on the cosmo reverse, rendering it unusable and that they needed it for the G plan. It insists that the G-plan takes top priority and continued to argue with Sanada.[3]
Saki eventually makes her decision by shooting the the Command AI and ordering her ship to the frontlines. The Ginga warps behind the Andromeda kai and prepares to fire. Saki tells the Yamanami that they will accompany him in saving the Yamato while giving him a salute which he reciprocated. Before firing, Megumi reminded that it would become unusable after firing but Saki responds that the Ginga belongs to all of humanity. The Ginga fires it's wave motion beam alonside the Andromeda and together they manage to penetrate the gravity well, destroying it and allowing the Yamato to escape.[3]
The Ginga appeared behind the Yamato and Andromeda, the later now crashing into Mars due to damages. Kato launches in a cosmo Zero and rescues a beaten up Yamanami who smiles.[3]
While the Yamato was repaired inside the time fault, Saki briefed her father Heikuro Todo about the loss of both the cosmo reverse system and the command AI. She continued that the G-plan would become impossible at the moment and as a result would hand over equipment from the Ginga to the Yamato and wait for further orders. Heikuro told her that he has questions about how the command AI was lost but regognized that it was wartime and that he must allow his field officers to make their own choices, to which Saki thanks him.[7]
As Heikuro was about to hang up the video call, but Saki suddenly told him that she felt she understood her mother a little bit better after saving the Yamato. She explained that because humans are weak and fragile they form idealistic thoughts, but that she believed they should just throw them away if they hold them back. Eventually, she realized that it's the weak and easily broken heart that drives humans to do the right thing, and that those feelings can't be replicated by a machine. She finished that even to the very end, she wished to remain human. [7]
After the Ark of destruction activted, Kodai now in control of the Space battleship Yamato tells Saki to leave the solar system as soon as possible and to search for a new earth. She responded with concern over what he was about to do but Kodai ended the transmission. The Yamato later self destructed while flying into the ark of destruction.[8]
Saki Todo would later take part in a meeting between Osamu Yamanami, Akira Yamamoto, Shiro Sanada, Kotetsu Serisawa, Heikuro Todo, Ambassador Beurell and the president of the Earth federation in which they discussed rescuing Susumu Kodai and Yuki Mori who were trapped in Teresas dimension. She proposed the use of the Ginga's cosmo reverse once again to compress the time fault in order to generate enough energy to send the Yamato back into Teresas dimension, allowing for the rescue of Kodai and Mori. However Serisawa found the idea of sacrificing the time fault to save two people absurd, which Saki and Sanada later discussed by the sea. [9]

Personality[]
Saki Todo is a determined person, willing to go great lengths in order for humanity to survive.[3] She is shown having a very tense facial expression, believing that by being gentle and weak will lead to the death of humanity.[4][3] Despite this, she does not completely abandon her humanity as she still hesitates to comply with the command AI's orders.[5] After saving the Yamato, she becomes more gentle and caring.[10][11]
