The SUS Empire-Earth Federation War was a war between the SUS Empire and the Earth Federation in the year of 2220. The Earth Federation was evacuating the people on Earth because of a Cascade Black Hole heading directly toward the Solar system and Earth.
Prelude to War[]
Rebirth is set in 2220, 21 years after the first Yamato story and 17 years after the story of the last film "Final Yamato", a wandering black hole is approaching the Solar System, and will destroy all life on Earth. As soon as the Earth Federation's Earth Defense Force (EDF) detected the Cascade Black Hole, the Earth Federation Council held an Emergency meeting with the Supreme Commander of the EDF and the Representatives of the Nations of the World. Due to its moving nature, Sanada named the phenomenon "Cascade Black Hole." The Earth Federation Council held an Emergency meeting with the Supreme Commander of the EDF the Representatives of the Nations of the World. The decision is made to evacuate Earth's entire population.
According to the film's official website, Earth's population is being moved to Amare, ruled by Queen Iriya, some 27,000 light-years away in the Sairam star system. When the film opens, that task is already underway. Amahl is part of the Urup Interstellar Alliance. Other primary member nations are Ethos, Furide, Beldel, and the powerful and mysterious SUS.
The War[]
The SUS oppose Earth's emigration for reasons of their own. Unbeknownst to the rest of the Alliance, the first two Earth emigration fleets are attacked and destroyed by SUS forces. Yuki Mori Kodai, the captain of one of the battleship escorts, is presumed lost in the battle.
The Earth flagship, Blue Noah, leads the First Emigration Fleet toward Amare. Suddenly, thousands of unidentified ships appear and open fire. Earth's Defense Fleet (EDF) warships counterattack but are swiftly overwhelmed. Blue Noah is critically damaged. On one of the failing support ships, Captain Yuki Mori Kodai, wife of protagonist Susumu Kodai, orders an emergency warp, but she mysteriously vanishes afterward.
The SUS deceive the Alliance Security Council into believing that the Earth fleets had attacked Alliance ships without provocation. As a result, the Council votes to authorize military action against Earth vessels. Upon receiving news of the attacks, Earth resurrects the legendary Yamato from the Aquarian ice field to lead the escort for the Third Emigration Fleet, with Susumu Kodai as its captain.
The newly rebuilt Yamato boasts an almost entirely new crew, as the original members have been reassigned to different posts. Shiro Sanada, formerly the Yamato's Science and Technology Group leader, now serves as the Commander of the Earth Defense Force. Daisuke Shima's younger brother, Jiro Shima, now 27, is Sanada’s adjutant. Other familiar characters, including Aihara, Ota, Nambu, and Kato, are absent. Dr. Sado and the robot Analyzer remain on Earth to assist with operations there. Leader Dessler and his Gamilas Empire also do not appear.
The drama focuses on the Yamato protecting the Third Emigration Fleet from Alliance attacks and the growing tension between the SUS and other Alliance members, such as Planet Ethos. As the Yamato exposes the SUS’s deception, it steps in to protect Amare and its allies. Ultimately, while the Yamato escorts the final emigration fleet, a catastrophic black hole threatens the Solar System, revealing the true nature of the SUS.
Thirty-eight-year-old Susumu Kodai, having resigned from the EDF sometime after Final Yamato, captains the cargo vessel Yuki. He intercepts a distress signal from Blue Noah and leads a boarding party to investigate. Without warning, three enemy ships arrive. Using Blue Noah’s last reserves of power, Kodai maneuvers the ship to fire a single, well-placed shot, destroying all three enemy vessels.
At EDF headquarters, Commander Sanada discusses the impending black hole with Kodai and informs him of his wife's disappearance in battle. Sanada urges Kodai to lead the Third Emigration Fleet, citing Yuki’s courage as an example to follow. Kodai reluctantly accepts the command, and Sanada reveals his ship: the newly rebuilt Yamato. Upon arriving at its drydock, Kodai takes the captain’s chair and solemnly vows to find his wife, refusing to accept her presumed death.
Meanwhile, in a secret meeting, the true orchestrators of the attacks—the SUS—are revealed. Metzler, Admiral of the SUS Fleet, deceives the Alliance leaders, including representatives from Amare, Beldel, Furide, and Ethos, showing manipulated footage of Earth ships firing Wave Motion Guns on SUS vessels. However, Gorui, the Admiral of the Ethos Fleet, remains skeptical.
The Yamato launches and assumes its place as the flagship of the Third Emigration Fleet. The crew devises a daring plan to slingshot the fleet around a small black hole, BH199, using the gravity boost to warp to Amare more quickly. However, as the first group of arks executes the maneuver, the Ethos Fleet, still uncertain, suddenly orders an attack. The Yamato detects the approaching enemy fleets, prompting Kodai to launch all fighters and split the escort fleet to counter the Beldel and Ethos forces. The Yamato itself engages the Furide Fleet.
A fierce battle erupts. The Furide Fleet bombards the Yamato, but the battleship counters with precision strikes, using shield torpedoes to neutralize incoming missiles. Meanwhile, the Beldel Fleet engages Earth’s escort ships in a brutal exchange of beam fire, with fighter squadrons from both sides locked in a deadly dogfight. During the battle, three Furide ships, including their flagship, break away to attack the vulnerable unarmed arks. The Yamato is pinned down by heavy fire, but three docked heavy bombers launch in a desperate counteroffensive, destroying the rogue enemy ships before they can cause further destruction.
Kodai orders a missile barrage that devastates much of the Furide Fleet. Onboard the Ethos flagship, Gorui observes how the Yamato fights selflessly to protect the fleet and begins to question the SUS’s narrative. Meanwhile, on the SUS flagship Maya, Metzler is caught off guard by the heavy losses suffered by the Alliance forces. As the majority of the arks successfully warp away, the escort fleet begins its retreat, with the Yamato covering their escape. Under relentless bombardment from the combined Furide and Beldel Fleets, the Yamato absorbs heavy damage but refuses to fire its Wave Motion Gun, as doing so would leave it defenseless.
As an ark comes under fire, Kodai maneuvers the Yamato between it and the enemy's lasers, taking the brunt of the attack. Seeing this act of sacrifice, Gorui realizes he has been deceived and orders his fleet to stand down. He contacts Kodai, acknowledging that the SUS manipulated them into war, and grants the EDF forces safe passage. His defiance, however, draws the ire of SUS Commander-in-Chief Barlsman, who threatens to annihilate the Ethos homeworld should Gorui disobey again.
The Third Emigration Fleet and its escorts reach Amare safely, where they are greeted with relief and celebration. Kodai speaks with a survivor from Yuki’s ship, who provides crucial information: her vessel was found empty. The survivor hands Kodai Yuki’s damaged captain’s hat, fueling his determination to uncover the truth.
Back on Earth, EDF HQ receives news of the fleet’s success, but the approaching black hole looms ominously. On Amare, Queen Iriya reveals to Kodai the grim reality of the Alliance: once war-torn and oppressed, the member planets accepted SUS rule under the guise of peace. However, the SUS have become tyrants, using Amare’s rare resources to maintain their grip on power. As Kodai processes this revelation, General Pascal of the Amare military confronts him, demanding that the humans leave before they bring the SUS’s wrath upon Amare. Before Kodai can respond, the city comes under sudden attack from SUS bombers and massive siege tanks, which indiscriminately destroy buildings and kill civilians.
As Amare’s forces struggle to repel the invaders, Gorui contacts Metzler, demanding an explanation. Metzler coldly informs him that Amare is being “disciplined” for insubordination. Realizing the SUS’s brutality, Gorui denounces them and orders the Ethos Fleet to engage the SUS forces in battle. In a climactic act of defiance, Gorui sacrifices his flagship by ramming it into Maya, destroying the SUS flagship. Though Metzler narrowly escapes, the battle shifts against the SUS.
Determined to resist tyranny, Kodai declares war on the SUS, rallying Amare’s forces to join the fight. With a final decisive battle looming against the SUS space fortress, the Yamato and its allies prepare for one last stand to break the SUS’s hold over the galaxy.
On the SUS Space Fortress, Metzlar meets with Barlsman and informs him of recent events, but Barlsman assures him that there's no reason to panic.
Outside the Fortress, a massive combined Furide, Beldel, and SUS Fleet stands ready and waits for their opponents to arrive for battle. The combined Fleet led by the Yamato and the Amare Flagship warps in, the Yamato deploys its Squadrons of fighters and heavy bombers, both sides starts firing on each other losing ships, the Squadrons of the Yamato faces off with Squadrons from the Beldel Fleet in a massive Dogfight, the Yamato then suffers damage from enemy Fire, losing one of its main gun turrets. The ship's Wave Motion Core starts to malfunction, but is quickly fixed by the Chief Engineer, saving the battleship from destruction. As the Battle continues into dangerous close quarters, Kodai orders the Yamato To break off and aim for the center with cover for their squadrons, but then, behind the combined enemy fleet, the SUS space fortress reveals itself from the mist of red clouds, surrounded by 5 massive jagged pillars, Kodai, surprised by the size of the fortress, orders Maho the Chief Navigator to analyze the fortress. inside the fortress, Barlsman was disappointed with Metzlar's tactics which he replied by ordering the Fortress Crew to prepare the Neutron Beam Cannons to fire on the Combined Earth and Amare fleet, the crew refuses as Allied ships were on the line of fire but Metzlar forces them to fire, outside the fortress, the 5 pillars are revealed to be the neutron guns, 2 of the pillars deployed its massive Gun barrel and fires a massive surge of neutron energy at the Fleets destroying almost all of the alliance ships, General Pascal orders the Amare Fleet to defend the Yamato the beam destroys the entire Amare Fleet and a large portion of the Escort Fleet, the Flagship of the Amare fleet was severely damaged defending the Battleship from the neutron beam with its shield, on board the burning Amare flagship, a dying Pascal bids the Yamato Good luck, the ship explodes, and the bridge crew of the battleship was in total shock that the SUS fired on their own men, and was not so surprised when the surviving ships of the alliance turned and retreated from the battlefield. Inside the fortress Metzlar requests they fire all 5 of the Neutron Guns on the Escort Fleet, which Barlsman approves. The other 4 Pillars deploys their gun barrels and fires in unison. The Yamato and her squadrons managed to escape the beam as they tear through the battlefield destroying the remaining Escort Ships. the Yamato fires a massive main gun barrage on the fortress but they were deflected by its impenetrable shield. Kodai orders the squadrons back to the ship. Maho reports to bridge about her findings and reveals to the crew about the inner workings of the space fortress, realising that the 5 pillars are also the shield generators for the fortress. the Yamato's First Officer requests to borrow the Shinano, Yamato's auxiliary ship but Kodai refuses. Then, the First Officer deliberately volunteers himself for this which Kodai agrees to. The Shinano fires a barrage of Wave Motion Missiles but they were ineffective, and instead, the Shinano was greeted with a massive barrage of anti air fire from 2 pillars damaging the Shinano. The First Officer, already wounded, sacrifices himself and disables the defensive energy shield around the fortress by ramming Shinano, which was loaded with wave motion torpedoes, shattering the shield like glass, and inside the fortress a fearful Ballsman and Metzlar watch in horror while Kodai gives a Salute, then orders the Crew to start up the transit wave motion gun while the fortress aims its Pillars on the Yamato, with the Wave Motion Gun ready, the Yamato unleashes five powerful shots, destroying the pillars and the main SUS Fortress sinks.

On board the Yamato, the crew celebrates but suddenly, an immense ship emerges from the sea of space and it immediately fires upon and bombards the Yamato with heavy beam fire before retreating into the sea, and coming out from behind again and mercilessly bombarding the already damaged Yamato, the immense SUS super battleship then fired a Neutron Beam at the Earth ship, but the Yamato narrowly missed the shot. Maho was in shock that such massive warship is able to manipulate dimensions and wander through them freely, the damage teams reports to the main bridge of the damage the ship has suffered, as the massive SUS ship then emerges from the front and pummels the Yamato yet again with heavy firepower, when captain Susumu Kodai himself realizing that the power source is the artificial sun behind it, and he orders the use of the final available shot of the Wave Motion Gun on it. Seeing the Earth ship heading towards the artificial star, the SUS super battleship deploys two small ships that peeled off from the Massive vessel and head straight towards the Yamato pummeling the battleship with fire, but was swiftly destroyed by a missile barrage. Once she got close enough, the Yamato was finally able to fire its last remaining Wave Motion Gun shot at the artificial sun, collapsing the sun and turning it into a black hole. The Yamato escapes, while the enemy ship, with Metzler and Ballsman in it, is literally torn apart and sucked into it.
Metzler escaped the destruction of the SUS space fortress, and appears to the Yamato crew and reveals himself and the people of the SUS as energy beings that can change form, being sent to this galaxy Of this universe from world of another dimension He systematically deceived all members of the Interstellar Alliance into thinking the Earth is into invading their territories. One member sees through his deception, and, with help from members, and good at manipulating others. He is extremely ambitious. He then disappears.
Yamato and the Cascade Black Hole[]
The Yamato warps back to Earth, Ultimately, as the Yamato returns to Earth to assist with the last of the emigration fleets, the cascade black hole tears into the Solar system.
Miyuki Kodai is the daughter of Susumu Kodai and Yuki Kodai . She worked for Dr.Sado‘s animal hospital, and during her father's mission to protect the third emigration fleet, she admits that she failed to see why her father was an icon when all he cared about is the Yamato and how he can save everybody but her mother. Upon the final hour of the evacuation from Earth away from the Cascade Black Hole she was put on the life boat by Analyzer on Dr. Sado's orders when she heard that he will be staying on Earth. On the way to evacuation site, her life boat was struck by lightning that disabled the vehicle. Hearing that her life boat did not reach its destination, Kodai boarded his Cosmo Zero and flew in search of the wreakage. Upon finding the ruins, he rescued her from the debris and took her up along with the other survivors on the Yamato. This action helped her change her point of view, as she suddenly realized that he would do anything to save someone. the Yamato found a way to defeat the SUS and powerles to stop the cascade black hole and the energy being Metzler appears again to the crew of Yamato as an interdimensional being responsible for the black hole that threatened Earth and the true nature of the SUS is revealed. He reveals that the black hole headed for Earth it really interdimension cracks is artificially created and controlled: it will serve as a portal to "steal" Many planetary system and resources take includung Earth with its peoples and resources And reborn as Energy food and sources for his kind, since they cannot be found in his world in which natural resources have been depleted. when SUS has exhausted the primary resources of their native planet, so they send different space expeditions to find a wants and People have begun looking toward other planets to survive, in Many universes and turn many planets And reborn as Energy food and sources .
Kodai realizes that it must have a power source. The Wave Motion Gun automatically reconfigured to enable it to fire all six shots in one go, a risky decision that could destroy the ship, but the crew unanimously agree that saving Earth is more important. The Yamato dives into the black hole, and as it reaches the core, the Wave Motion Gun fires, destroying interdimension cracks in a gigantic implosion and cascade black hole implosion causes SUS universe collapses and end of SUS.
The blast from the Wave Motion Gun had ruptured and damaged the Yamato bow and front section; the third bridge (where the ship's navigation room resides) also suffers serious damage and is exposed to space, killing Chief Navigator Maho Orihara, who was working in it, and her assistants; but the ship is still space-worthy and orbits Earth in triumph.
Directors Cut[]
Within the directors cut, we see a different result splintering off from after Miyuki Kodai is saved, from which the Yamato stood stagnant away from Earth watching. Once the Earth is consumed by the Cascade Black Hole, the Yamato receives a transmission from the new flagship of humanity Blue Earth. After this interaction, multiple refitted vessels begin the journey to Amare. Among these ships is the Pennsylvania Class, Super Andromeda Class, Super-Isokaze Class, and the flagship Blue Earth.
