"Praise Be Our Eternal Glory" is the national anthem of the Greater Garmillan Empire. The tempo and rhythm of the anthem are very martial, suggesting the militarization of the empire that has taken place under Supreme Leader Abelt Desler. The lyrics also convey a military character, but balance it with the beauty of the planet Garmillas, the heart of the empire.[1]
The song is held in great reverence by those who serve in the military. During a review of Homeland Defense Fleet forces, a Garmillas officer questions the trustworthiness of lower-ranked soldiers, members of the subject Zaltzi species, in their cause. One of the soldiers, Corporal Norren Oshetto, responds by singing the anthem. His Zaltzi comrades quickly join in, followed by the Garmillas officers standing nearby, ending any debate about trust or loyalty.[1]
Lyrics[]
"Planet where the blue flowers blossom.
Our noble home.
Sing a song of joy!
May God’s grace always be with us
Ghale Garmillon!
Hail to the victory of our home."[2]
"The sublime triumph of our will
Spreads throughout the universe
Through our passionate ideals
May God’s grace always be with us
Ghale Phuzeron!
A proud nation of steel".[3][4]
Behind the scenes[]
Although Praise Be Our Eternal Glory exists within the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 universe and is known to its characters, the song and an instrumental version of it are also used as background music throughout the series, and it appears in the Space Battleship Yamato 2202 episodes "Dessler's Challenge!" and "O Teresa, Cry for Dessler!" The anthem is generally used to signify the majesty of the Greater Garmillan Empire and of Supreme Leader Dessler,[5] the strength of the empire,[6] or its brutality.[7][8]
English version[]
Here is a transcript of the song in the English dub:
"Our home, noble, mighty, strong and true,
World of majesty, with her blossoms blue!
Sing with joy and overcome!
May the grace of the gods who look down from above
Ever march to our drum!
Garle Gamilas![N 1]
Glory be with us.
Eternal glory!"[1]
