The Patrol Ship is a cruiser class in service in the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy that entered service during the Gatlantis Campaign. Two ships of the class were part of the Enceladus Defense Unit during Battle of Saturn.
Armament and Technical Specifications[]
The Patrol Ship is a light armored cruiser built with the purpose to carry out patrols and to achieve high speeds, which allows it to carry out long-term independent missions away from fleet operations. It's armed with a single small wave-motion gun as well as three small MK. 12 twin positron turrets and four MK. 32 torpedo launchers, which give it a higher fire-power rate than previous smaller warship classes and make it on par with its larger contemporary, the Dreadnought-class.[1] It is also equipped with a departure and landing port for carrier-based aircrafts that is located under the bottom twin turret, and is presumably used to carry Cosmo Seagulls.[3]
Its characteristic cylindircal shape is said to be a German design that utilises the metric system.[3]
It's equipped with a radar system on the upper part of the bridge and the bottom of the ship, patrolling and searching for enemies during independent missions. The top radar is equipped with blue rotating lights and holographic signal flags to communicate with other earth vessels during fleet operations. The signal flags can be displayed in four rows on each side of the bridge, and are said to have evolved from the international signal flags and NATO signal flags of the previous centuries.[1][3]
The Patrol Ship is typically crewed by a total of nine officers and forty-six sailors in order to operate it effectively.[1]
History[]
Various Patrol Ships were launched by May 2203, they took part in the Battle of Saturn serving in both the Enceladus Defense Unit and also in the Yamanami fleet, with many ships of the class being destroyed after the Ark of Destruction utililised its supergravity.[2]
Two ships of the class remained behind at the emergency drydock on Mars in late May, and a number of them survived the war in its entirity. The remaining vessels of the class were still in service as late as October 2205.[4][5]
