The Outer Defense Division[2] was a UNCF military unit created after the end of the Great Garmillas War which was stationed on the 11th planet. Following his opposition to the Wave-motion Gun fleet plan, Admiral Ryu Hijikata was removed from his post of commander of Space Defense Command and was given command of the Outer Defense Division, which served as a de facto exile, removing him from any position of influence within the military.[1]
The Outer Defense Division was wiped out during the Battle of the eleventh planet, leaving only the 7th Space Cavalry Regiment behind.[3]
