Placement of the UNCF forces according to Operation S

Operation S, or the solar system defense operations, was a defense operation designed by the United Nations Cosmo Force to prepare for the Gatlantis Empire's incoming invasion of the solar system in early 2203.

Overview

The Yamanami Fleet at s4

Operation S identified 4 areas of interest, from s1 to s4, where to set up defenses against the incoming Gatlantean threat. s1 was the Saturn area, where the Enceladus Defense Unit was stationed; s2, Jupiter, was protected by the Ginga fleet; a Garmillas fleet was stationed at Mars, s3; and the Yamanami Fleet, the main UNCN fleet, was stationed at s4, in lunar orbit. In case Gatlantis broke through a defense line, various Walls of Garmillas Subject were deployed to create an anti-warp field that would guide the empire's forces to the next UNCF line of defense. 80 Walls of Garmillas had been placed down throughout the solar system by May 1.

Additionally, the possibility of Gatlantis trying to assemble a Legionnaire Cannon like they had done during the Battle of the eleventh planet was taken into consideration. Two points were identified as the most plausible points from which the empire could assemble the weapon, Saturn and Jupiter, and countermeasures were put in place.

History

The time fault factory

Operation S was created in anticipation of the Gatlantis Empire's invasion of the solar system. The testimonies given by the refugees who survived the onslaught on the 11th planet confirmed that the Gatlanteans were not interested in expanding their influence or in conquering the Earth and that their only goal was utter destruction. With this in mind, the Earth Federation Defense Force began preparation for total war. The AI of the still incomplete Yamato-class ship Ginga was used to predict the enemy's most likely strategy, and hundreds upon hundreds of ships were hastily built in the time fault factory. To achieve maximum production capacity in the fault, the private and public sectors were temporarily united, and the Earth fully transitioned into a war economy.

The Garmillas fleet on June 2

The invasion began in full on May 8, 2203, after weeks of skirmishes in the outer solar system. The first battle occurred on Saturn, and the Enceladus Defense Unit faced off against the Gatlantis Army's Seventh Mobile Fleet. The Yamanami Fleet left its post and was deployed to assist the Enceladus forces on the battlefield. However, the arrival of the White Comet, Gatlantis' mobile capital, sent the Earthling forces in disarray and forced a reorganization of the Earth's defenses. The Ginga fleet, backed by a large Garmillas fleet, warped to Saturn and continued to hold the line there. In the meantime, the Earth began producing new lines of ever-more-advanced warships and deployed them with the Garmillan forces at s3, creating the Mars Defense Front. Gatlantis eventually broke through the defenses at Saturn and arrived at Mars on May 14. To refurbish the UNCF ranks at Mars, Dreadnoughts initially produced for the defense of the Earth were sent fighting at the Defense Front. The line was held by the Garmillas-Earth forces until June 2, but the White Comet eventually broke through and attacked the Earth directly, wiping out the few forces stationed at s4. However, the bulk of the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force and the battleship Yamato led the last assault as Gatlantis approached the Earth.
