This article is about the Nazca Class Astro Strike Carrier from Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and its sequels. For its counterpart in Space Battleship Yamato 2 and Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, see Fast Middlesize Carrier.
The Nazca Class Astro Strike Carrier, also called Nazca Class Space Carrier, Nazca Middlesize Space Aircraft Carrier, or Nazca Class Space Middlesize Aircraft Carrier,[6][7][8] was a warship model in service of the Gatlantis Empire. These were large and very common warships, and were the primary carrier used in Gatlantean task forces.[4]
Armament and Technical Specifications[]
The Nazca Class was armed with a heavy arsenal, something unusual for an aircraft carrier. It was equipped sith 3 octuple Rapid-fire Turrets, 2 double Rapid-fire Turrets, 18 anti-air guns and at least 8 missile launchers and 2 torpedo launchers. Ships of the class were capable of dishing an immense amount of damage with extreme accuracy thanks to the turrets scattering of the energy during firing.[4][5] Most of the class's armaments were concentrated in the hull superstructure, with the main, secondary, and anti-aircraft gun turrets arranged symmetrically on the upper and lower sides of the flight deck section, with one less main gun turret on the upper starboard side due to the presence of the bridge.[9]
The upper structure of the hull had a hollow central part that served as a flight deck. Two elevators were placed in each of the left and right hangars, and an elevator for large aircraft was also placed behind the center of the flight deck.[1] Two storages for aircraft were placed on the carrier, one on each side of the flight deck.[9]
History[]
2199 and the hunt for the World of Tranquility[]

Kiska at the start of the Battle of Kappadokia
In early 2199, the Garmillas general Elk Domel squared off against a gatlantean fleet that included various Nazca-classes during the Battle of the Small Magellanic Cloud Outskirts.[1] At that time, one Nazca Class Carrier, Kiska, was under the command of the Governor General of Gutaba Goran "Thunder" Dagam and was part of the governor's Gutaba Expedition Group, the carrier served as part of the Kiska Strike Force, a subdivision of the overall Fleet, headed by Isla "Gale" Paracas. In August 2199,[10] Kiska and the Expedition Group moved from the Small Magellanic Cloud in search of the World of Tranquillity, which lead to them encountering the remnants of the Zoellik Faction and Space Battleship Yamato starting off a chain of events which would lead to the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity and the Battle of Shambleau, during which Kiska was heavily damaged.[1]
2202-2203 and the Gatlantis Campaign[]
The Nazca Class had served, up until the last month of 2202, a central warship in the Gatlantis Astro Fleet. However, the introduction of the Gaizengan Weapons Group restructured the organization and weapon system of Gatlantis. As a result, the Nazca shifted into the role of an auxiliary vessel.[9]

Three Nazca Class carriers during the 8th Floating Continent Recapture Operation
In December 2202, at least two Nazca-classes commandeered by Cosmodart, one of which was his flagship, assaulted the 11th planet before the bulk of the Eighth Mobile Fleet arrived.[11][12][13] After being damaged by Yamato's Wave-motion Gun, Cosmodart's ship was purged by Desler Fleet on the orders of Emperor Zworder.[14][15]
Many Nazca Class Astro Strike Carriers took part in the Gatlantis Campaign against the forces of both the UN Cosmo Navy and Garmillas Empire. They were all presumably destroyed when Emperor Zworder activated the Golem killing all Gatlanteans during the Golem Assault Battle.[16][17][18]

Notes[]
- The class shares its name with The Nazca Lines, a group of geoglyphs made in the soil of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. The name Nazca is also used by a warship class from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
