The National Space Defense Academy, also simply Space Defense Academy, is a university-level service academy whose purpose is to educate and train students who will serve as officers in the three services of the Earth Federation Cosmo Force.

Okita, Yamanami, Hijikata and other graduates of Space Defense Academy
The National Space Defense Academy was founded during the Inner Planetary Wars, around 2168,[3] and multiple of its students saw action during the conflict.[5][6] Many of its graduates, such as Juzo Okita, Ryu Hijikata and Osamu Yamanami went on to become the pillars of the United Nations Cosmo Force.[6][7] Early in the Great Garmillas War, Mamoru Kodai, Shiro Sanada and Kaoru Niimi attended the academy.[1] In 2193, one of its professors retired due to memory loss, the same year Niimi graduated and the young Saki Todo enlisted.[8]
Following the founding of the Earth Federation, Space Defense Academy continued to train officers for the reorganized Cosmo Force. On October 1, 2205, the 38th Class of Space Defense Academy graduated and joined the 65th Escort Corps as cadets.[2]
