The Murasame-class Space Cruiser, also referred to as the Space Cruiser Murasame Type,[7] is a class of cruiser in service with the United Nations Cosmo Navy launched in 2170. It formed the backbone of the UNCN since its launch up until the end of the Great Garmillas War, with the class's namesake, the Murasame, being the first ship to be destroyed in the conflict.
It continued to serve in the ranks of the reorganized Cosmo Navy following the end of the war, being refitted into the Murasame Kai-class Space Cruiser. While by then the class had mostly been phased out in favor of more modern vessels, it saw action in the Gatlantis Campaign in late 2203.
Armaments and Technical Specifications[]
The Murasame-class space cruiser is 152 meters in length, with 6 20 centimeter high pressure beam cannons, 4 torpedo ports, and a nose-mounted 20 centimeter positron shock cannon. Like the Isokaze-class Space Assault Destroyer, the cruisers are painted in dazzle patterns.[4][5]
Following the class's refit in the aftermath of the Great Garmillas War, the Murasame's beam cannons were replaced by twin-mount shock cannons, and the prow mounted shock cannon's caliber was changed from 20 cm to 28. The cruiser was also equipped with a Wave-motion Engine for superluminal travel, which also allowed it to deploy a wave-motion shield.[5]
History[]

The Murasame, namesake of the class, sinks
This class of ships was first completed in 2170 and many of these ships fought in the Inner Planetary Wars.[3] The namesake ship of the class was present at first contact between the Greater Garmillan Empire and the United Nations, and became the first vessel to be destroyed by aliens in Earthling history. At least two Murasame-classes fought in Operation K. A number of these ships were deployed during the Second Battle of Mars where many sank but prevented a direct Garmillas assault on Earth.[3][8]
During Operation M, a total of nine Murasame-class cruisers participated. The weapons system aboard the ships proved ineffective against the Garmillas fleet, and they were destroyed one after another. None of the Murasame-class cruisers returned to Earth.[1] Following the end of the War in 2201 the class was revamped with new wave-motion technology. This new line of cruisers was dubbed Murasame Kai-class Space Cruiser.[9][5]

The Cosmo Navy's Special Hybrid Fleet approaches the 8th Floating Continent, it includes several Murasame Kai-class Space Cruisers
In December 2202, various Murasame-class Cruisers escorted the Kongo-class battleship Ticonderoga and Yunagi as part of the Special Hybrid Fleet.[2] In May 2203, at least one Murasame-class was presented at a drydock near Mars, where the Yamato was being refitted.[9] On June 2, 2203, Mercy, Intrepid, Kermadec, and two other Murasame-class, offered support to the crew of the badly damaged Yamato and the evacuated lunar medical facility personnel along with the Kongo Kai-class Watatsumi at the end of the Final Battle Over Earth.[10] On December 31, 2203, Mercy, Intrepid, and two other Murasame-class, were in Earth orbit and welcomed the return of two Yamato crew members who had been lost along with the Yamato-class Ginga.[11]

Notes[]
- Medical ships of the class had a peculiar blue, white and light blue paintjob[13]
- This is technically a violation of the Hague Convention X of 1907, as according to the convention "Hospital-ships must be painted white. Military hospital ships must have a green band; ships operated by approved relief societies and similar must have a red band"
- Using an armed ship as an hospital ship is a violation of the same convention by default, as "No [...] method to exercise control [through an hospital ship] is available"
