The Milky Way Galaxy, also known simply as the Milky Way, is a barred-spiral galaxy with a diameter of one million light years and a thickness of 1,000 light years. It houses over 100 billion stars, including the Sun and its solar system.
Overview[]

Diagram of the Milky Way Galaxy
The Milky Way Galaxy is composed of over 100 billion stars and nebulae concentrated in the shape of a disk with a diameter of a million light years and a thickness of 1,000 light years. The disc has a spiral concentration of stars and nebulae. These are called spiral arms and they include the Orion Arm, where the Solar system is located, the Perseus Arm, the Carina-Sagittarius Arm, and the Scutum–Centaurus Arm. At the center of the disk, there's a significantly thicker portion that has fewer nebulae and where stars move and gather differently from the rest of the disc. Studying the motion of the celestial bodies in the area, it has been estimated that a large concentration of dark matter is present there. At the center of the bulge, and of the Milky Way as a whole, lies Sagittarius A, a supermassive black hole 4 million times the mass of the Sun. The entire galaxy is surrounded by a gaseous halo that reaches much further than the stellar halo, it is theorized that a massive astrophysical compact halo object (MACHO) may be present in the Milky Way's halo.[1]
The Milky Way Galaxy is orbited by the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds and by the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy.[1]
History[]

One of the Archelian subspace gates
In the ancient past, the Milky Way Galaxy was seeded by the Archelias people with genetic material that would give rise to at least one human race, the Earthlings.[2] The Archelias also constructed at least one subspace gate near the edge of the Milky Way, allowing for transit across intergalactic distances to the rogue planet Balun, and the Large Magellanic Cloud.[3][4][5]
In more recent times, part of the Milky Way Galaxy was taken over by the Greater Garmillan Empire,[3][6] hailing from the Large Magellanic Cloud, while another substantial section of it fell under the rule of the Bolar Federation.[7] Following a devastating conflict between them and Garmillas, the earthlings founded the Earth Federation and began expanding their influence outside of their Solar system.[8]
