The Lascaux-class Assault Cruiser, also called Lascaux Class Space Cruiser[6] or Lascaux Assault Space Cruiser,[7] was a warship model in service of the Gatlantis Empire. It was a small and very common warship most often used in frontline battle and saw action through most battles of the Gatlantis Campaign and the conflict between Gatlantis and the Garmillas Empire.

Armament and Technical Specifications[]

The Lascaux-class Cruiser was a heavily armed ship that made out the backbone of the empire's Astro Fleet. It was equipped with 11 anti-aircraft[8] eight-barrel Rapid-fire Turrets, 3 quadruple-barrel Rapid-fire Turrets, and 10 missile tubes.[4][5] Three large main turrets and three small secondary turrets where placed on the top and bottom of the hull. Two of the octuple turrets were at the base of the bridge, and two others were positioned symmetrically on the underside of the hull. Two of the quadruple turrets were equippedthe base of the lower bow. In addition, the class was also equipped with ten missile launchers on both sides of the base of the bridge, and two quantum torpedo launchers.[8][4][5]

The torpedo type variant of the Lascaux was equipped with a super large missile that protrudes from its bow.[8][4][5]

The Lascaux-class Cruiser's hull was characterized by a flat, linear form, which was the standard in Gatlantean spaceships before the Gaizengan Weapons Group. The bow was divided into upper and lower parts and protrudes forward, and the bridge was located on the upper center of the hull.[8]

History[]

The Lascaux-class was named after the Lascaul, a thunder beast from Gatlantean mythology.[9] It was built off of plundered technology from races destroyed by the Gatlantis Empire and became the main warship used by the Gatlantis Astro Fleet. However, since it was based on stolen technology, its performance was limited.[10]

A Gatlantis Fleet including two Lascaux-classes

In early 2199, the Garmillas General Elk Domel squared off against a Gatlantean fleet that included two Lascaux-classes during the Battle of the Small Magellanic Cloud Outskirts.[11] Months later, in August 2199,[12] Eight Lascaux-class Cruisers were part of the Gutaba Expedition Group fleet escorting Goran "Thunder" Dagam's flagship the Megaruda, during the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity. During the Battle of Kappadokia, One of these Lascaux-class Assault Cruiser name Gliade took part in an effort to capture the earthling battleship Yamato and was destroyed by friendly fire from the Megaruda. The remaining Lascaux-class Assault Cruisers were all destroyed, along with the rest of the Gutaba Expedition Group, by the combined forces of the Yamato and a Garmillas fleet during a decisive battle at Shambleau.[1]

Many Lascauxs were deployed in late 2202 in the Gatlantis Vanguard Fleet.[13] With the creation of the Calaklum and other Gaizengan Weaponsthat same year, the Lascaux-class lost its centrality in the Gatlantis Army, but remained widely in use.[8]

At least four Lascaux-class ships were entrusted by Emperor Zworder to serve in the Desler Fleet under command of Abelt Desler. They had their hulls painted in Garmillas' "noble blue" and all four were destroyed in a dimensional fault. Two of them were destroyed due to excessive energy conversion while the remaining two were destroyed due to friendly fire by Neu Deusura with the Desler Cannon.[14] Various Lascaux-classes were part of the Terezart close-support unit and fought during the Terezart Liberation Battle.[15][16]

Many Lascaux-class Assault Cruisers participated in Gatlantis's invasion of the solar system. They were all presumably destroyed when Emperor Zworder activated Golem during the Golem Assault Battle.[17][18][19]

Behind the scenes[]

The Lascaux-class was designed by Kazutaka Miyatake,[20] and was based on Yamato 2's Missile Cruiser.[21] The Lascaux was originally 285 meters in length, it was later changed to 240 meters in Odyssey of the Celestial Ark.[20]

The class shares its name with the Lascaux Cave, a network of caves near the village of Montignac, in the department of Dordogne in southwestern France.
