The Deep Space Investigator[N 1] Laboratory Aquarius (AAA-07) is a UNCN Andromeda-class ship of the AAA Advanced Stage (AAAS) type.[4] It was built by the Earth Federation to carry out an investigation on the Archelias civilisation.
Armaments and technical specifications[]
Laboratory Aquarius was the first ship to use a TAG (Tug Around Galaxy) system, where a large ship connected by gravity anchor to smaller ships (2 C-classes in the Laboratory Aquarius case) which enables it to warp without using the main ship’s power reactor. This method was used later in the Decisive Battle off Mars resulting in large military gains.[4][3]
History[]
When Space battleship Yamato returned from her voyage in December 2199, it came with the revelation of the existance of the ancient Archelias civilazation, the founder civilization that had created humanity. It was decided that the seventh Andromeda-class Starship, originally named Aquarius but then renamed Laboratory Aquarius after being given its new duty, would carry out a long-term exploration of the Archelias civilization. The name was given to its successor, and Laboratory Aquarius launched together with the Earth Federation Science Bureau's Musashi, tasked with researching a Wave-motion Energy anomaly.[4][3]
On December 24, 2202, the ship was not chosen to pursue the rebellious Yamato the ship's revolt due to its mission having precendence over that of the Andromeda, which was chosen for the job instead.[4][3]
It and Musashi were sent out in different long-term exploration missions, but ended up meeting together at the center of the galaxy. The fact that their respective reaserches led them to the same point, seemed to imply the phenomeon studied by Musashi and Archelias were somehow related. Following the meeting, the Laboratory Aquarius continued her mission, discovering the planet origin of the Archelias civilazation and reporting the danger of collisions with other galaxies. In the following years, as Laboratory Aquarius continued her exploration, eventually coming to be called a "second Yamato" due for the strange fate that befell it.[4][3]

Notes[]
- Laboratory Aquarius only appears on Scale Aviation, Makoto Kobayashi non-Canon magazine, and on the Document Andromeda 2202 DX, which specifically isn't meant to "describe the world of the story". This means the ship and its story may or may not be considered canon.[4]
