The L'Andromède (AAA-009), also spelled L'Androméde,[2] was an Andromeda-class ship of the L'Andromède type variant controlled by the Greater Garmillan Empire, it was launched during the Decisive Battle off Mars, and fought and was sunk early in the Golem Assault Battle.[1]
Much like its sister ships Vem Heidern and Dels Gardola it was originally armed with double Reflective Satellite Cannons in order to enable a method of omni-direction attacks using small reflection satellites, but when the Garmillas-Earth Joint Forces came to know about Gatlantis's usage of their own replica of the Satelite Cannon, the probability increased that this strategy would be invalidated and the ship was thus equipped with standard wave motion guns.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
According to the ship's creator Shinya Ogura he named the ship and her class to reflect the way Garmillas people would pronounce the name Andromeda, the spelling was taken from the french submarine Andromede which was captured by the germans in world war II.[2]
Initially, Ogura wanted the L'Andromède to be equipped with Desler cannons, but Nobuyoshi Habara disliked the idea since he wasn't able to associate the ship's blocky gun ports with the weapon. Ogura then thought to keep the shape of the bow and re-imagine the gunports as thrust vectoring nozzles.[2]
The Andromeda DX book states that the ship is equipped with wave motion guns, but since the booklet does not necessarily reflect the official settings of the anime its canonicity is unsure.[5]
