Kerberos I (Kerberos Einz, lit. Cerberus One) is the Earth Federation's codename for a Zoellugut-class 1st Class Astro Combat Vessel of the Greater Garmillan Empire. It was one of the older Zoellugut-class Vessels, meant to be deployed into hostile territory to serve as a fortress, as such, it was not among the ships called to Balun in May of 2199 during Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik's naval review since stayed behind in occupied space.

By 2202, it had become obsolete compared to newer ships of the class, and it was one of four remaining Zoelluguts. It was equipped with a Wall of Garmillas Subjects and was deployed as part of the Frontier Defense Task Force 38 alongside its two sister ships Kerberos II and Kerberos III during 8th Floating Continent Recapture Operation on December 2.

Novelization

In the Space Battleship Yamato 2202 novelization Kerberos I is the flagship of the Frontier Defense Task Force 38 and of its commanding officer, Das Lugens. Additionally, in the novelization, the three Zoelluguts that appear at the 8th Floating Continent Recapture Operation are new ships of the class built after Abelt Desler's fall rather than older ones.

Behind the scenes

All Zoellugut-class vessels that appear in Star Blazers 2202, along with the Walls of Garmillan Subject, were an idea conceived by Deputy Director Makoto Kobayashi and were added after the final draft of the script. As such they do not appear in the early script. Writer Harutoshi Fukui stated that he was surprised when he first saw the ship in the storyboards.
