Jirō Nomura (能村次郎) was the executive officer of the battleship Yamato under Captain Kosaku Aruga. He survived the sinking of the Yamato and was rescued by Lieutenant Commander Gazō Sakō (酒匂雅三) of the destroyer Hatsushimo.
After the war, he went on to write the book Lamentation of the Sea: Record of the Battleship Yamato's Battle to the Death (慟哭の海―戦艦大和死闘の記録). He also served as a technical advisor on the the 1953 movie, Battleship Yamato (戦艦大和).
