The Hyuga-class Battleship-carrier is a battleship-carrier class of Earth Federation Cosmo Navy derived from the Dreadnought-class Vanguard Starship. Named after its lead ship Hyuga it is currently in mass production alongside the Asuka-class under the Fourth Defense Plan.

The Hyuga-class shares many similarities with the Dreadnought-class, on which it is based. On top of the flight deck added behind the conning tower, the front of the ship has also been modified, most notably, since the flight deck protrudes on the port side, the conning tower and the shock cannons are moved to the starboard side. The antennas near the conning tower are also asymetrical, and the bridges are shifted slightly backwards and are lowered. Additionally, a window is present on the back of the tower.[4][5]

In order to allow space for the flight deck, the engine nozzle is changed from the Dreadnought's round one to a more narrow, composite nozzle.[4]

The Hyuga-class is classified as a light carrier, meaning it only carries a relatively small complement of four squadrons, less than the Andromeda-class Carrier-type. The fighters, either Cosmo Tiger IIs or Cosmo Pythons, are kept in two rotating cylinder hangar under the flight deck. They can take off either from hatches on both sides of the hangar, or from an elevator leading to the flight deck.[5]

40 Analyzers AU-19 are part of the crew on board, divided into three groups whose leader has a special post on the first bridge.[1] Otherwise, the bridge is similar to that of an Asuka-class ship.[4]

Classification[]

The official name of the Hyuga-class is the Hyuga-class Battleship-Carrier,[6] although it is also referred to as the Hyuga Class Battlecarrier or as the Hyuga-class Astro Battleship-carrier.[7] Prior to its mass-production, the model was referred to as Modified Dreadnought Hyuga-class Battlecarrier (Aircraft Carrier),[6][N 1] Modified Dreadnought-class Battlecarrier, or Modified Dreadnought-class for short.[6]

History[]

The Modified Dreadnought-class Battleship-carrier Hyuga was built from the half-completed hull of a Dreadnought-class Vanguard Starship after the scrapping of the time fault,[1] as part of the Fourth Defense Plan.[2] The construction of the Hyuga followed the Multifunctional Composite Standard Battleship Plan.[8]

Hyuga Yamato

The ship was part of the 65th Escort Corps and was deployed on a peace mission to the Salezar system in October 2205.[4] This mission led to the ship's involvement in the Iscandar Incident.[9] Upon returning to Earth, the crew was reassigned to different duties, and Lieutenant Hiroki Shinohara received a special promotion to Lieutenant Commander, becoming the new captain of the battleship-carrier.[2]

The ship line officially entered mass production as the Hyuga-class Battleship-carrier between 2205 and 2207.[2] The Hyuga participated in defending against the Invasion of the Ground Reverse[10] and was later slated to join the Special Task Force under the Director. However, it was ultimately captured by Dezarian vessels.[11]
