Hyuga (DCV-01) (ひゅうが, Hyūga) is a Earth Federation Cosmo Navy Battleship-Carrier and the lead ship of the Hyuga-class, first entering service in October 2205. It formed the 65th Escort Corps with Yamato and Asuka before the unit's dissolution in the aftermath of the Iscandar Incident.

By 2207 it had been moved to the 28th Escort Corps, and in October of the same year it partook in the Invasion of the Ground Reverse and remained stranded on Earth.

History[]

Construction and early service[]

Hyuga was originally constructed in the shipyard of the time fault as one of the many unmanned Dreadnoughts intended to be used during the Gatlantis Campaign. However, it was not before the conflict ended. After the time fault was abandoned, Hyuga and other unfinished Dreadnoughts were repurposed to align with the Earth Federation's new military policy. This policy shifted from expansionism to optimizing military equipment to better suit Earth's needs.[1] Hyuga was completed following the Multifunctional Cosmposite Standard Battleship Plan.[4]

After it was repurposed, command of Hyuga was given to Commander Shiro Sanada and the ship was made part of the newly formed 65th Escort Corps, serving as the left wing of the flagship Yamato. The fleet's first mission was to accompany the Peace Corps, a peace delegation formed of Ambassadors Loren Burrell and Kotetsu Serizawa as well as the EFCN commander Osamu Yamanami, in their journey towards the twin planets Iscandar and Garmillas. Hyuga took off for the first time together with her fleet in October 2, 2205.[5]

Iscandar Incident[]

After learning that planet Garmillas had been destroyed, Hyuga and the fleet received orders from headquarters to not continue their journey. This was because headquarters did not want Earth to be dragged into another war.[6] But after a mutiny led by W.O. Ryusuke Domon, Commander Susumu Kodai of the Yamato decided to transfer the Peace Corps to a nearby Garmillas fleet and joined the ongoing Iscandar Incident.[7]

As the Desler fleet was being overwhelmed by Dezariam on Iscandar, the 65th Escort Corps arrived to assist and won the battle.[8] Hyuga also later took part in the Battle in the Vorzon System.[9]

Hyuga later participated in the Immigrant Fleet Rescue Operation, a mission aimed at rescuing Garmillas migrants stranded on Iscandar's surface. Although the mission was called off, the combined fleet continued to battle the Dezariam force. The Yamato, along with Hyuga and Deusura III, entered the atmosphere and deployed their Wave-motion Shield to protect the immigrants from a Dezarian cannon shot.[10] As they were about to leave Iscandar following a truce between Dezariam and Queen Stasha Iscandar, Hyuga led the combined fleet in a last-ditch effort to save Leader Abelt Desler. After the end of the battle, Hyuga and the 65th parted ways with Desler's fleet and returned to the Earth.[11]

Operation DAD and Dezarium's invasion[]

After returning from Iscandar, the 65th Escort Corps was reorganized and Hyuga was transferred to the 28th Escort Corps. The captain's position was also handed over to Lieutenant Commander Hiroki Shinohara. In October 2207, during the Invasion of the Ground Reverse, Hyuga along with Aldebaran and a Dreadnought, fired its Wave-motion Gun from Martian orbit towards the Ground Reverse; however, it had no effect.[3]

Hyuga later received orders to retrieve all former crew members of the disbanded 65th Escort Corps and to bring them to a secret location. The carrier arrived inside the Earth's atmosphere and began loading the six Cosmo Seagulls carrying the Yamato fleet's crews. However, Hyuga fell victim to a surprise attack from a Pleiades-class Assault Battleship hidden behind the clouds. Communications were cut between it and the surface, and the ship remained stranded on the planet.[12]

Notes[]

  • Hyuga, along with Asuka, seem to be inspired by the Ise-class battleship, both having conventional weaponry replaced with flight deck. Hyuga is also named after Ise's sister, the IJN Hyuga.
