Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

The Gutaba Expedition Group, also known as the Dagam Fleet,[4] was a strike force[5] of the Gatlantis Empire's Gutaba Area forces under the command of the Grand Chief Commissioner of the Gutaba Area Goran "Thunder" Dagam. The Group's main objective was finding and capturing the Archelian ark known to the Gatlanteans as "the World of Tranquillity."

In August 2199,[2] the GutabaExpedition Group moved from the Small Magellanic Cloud in search of the ark which lead to them encountering the remnants of the Zoellik Faction and Space Battleship Yamato starting off a chain of events which would lead to the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity and the Battle of Shambleau, which would see the death of Dagam and the destruction of the entire group.[3][6]

Organization[]

The Gutaba Expedition Group was under the command of Goran Dagam who used the Medarusa-class Heavy battleship Megaruda, captained by Bodom Mace, as his flagship. The Kiska Strike Force was a subdivision of the overall Fleet headed by Isla "Gale" Paracas from his Nazca-class Strike Carrier Kiska.[3][4]

History[]

Origins[]

Sometime before August 2199, Goran Dagam, a Gatlantean warrior from a lowly caste, caught the eye of emperor Zworder. He was given command of the Gutaba Expedition Group and was named Grand Chief Commissioner of Gutaba, the Small Magellanic Cloud, a contested area between the Empire and Garmillas.[6][7]

The Expedition Group's mission was to find and capture the Archelian Ark Shambleau, known to Gatlantis as the "Word of Tranquillity". To do that in September 2199 Dagam's forces stepped outside of the Small Magellanic Cloud and headed towards the Large Magellanic Cloud, outside of the galaxy they encountered and subsequently destroyed the remnants of the Zoellik Faction during the Skirmish Outside of the Large Magellanic Cloud.[3][6]

Battle against Yamato[]

Initial encounter[]

For this topic in more detail see, Battle of Kappadokia

Sometime later Dagam encountered the Earthling space battleship Yamato during the ship's journey to return from Iscandar. Following the signing of the Earth Iscandar Treaty of Amity and Garmillas-Earth Interim Agreement, it had its Wave-motion Gun sealed as part of the integration process of the Cosmo Reverse System with the ship's systems. Dagam knew of Yamato's existance thanks to leaked information from Garmillas, as he hadn't had any luck in finding Shambleau he changed his objective to capturing the earthling warship.

The Gatlanteans attacked first and only later the Governor General started a brief video conversation with Yamato's Tactics Officer Lieutenant Susumu Kodai, in which he ordered the earthlings to either surrender or die. Folllowing this Dagam ordered the bulk of his forces to attack and fired Megaruda's Flame Strike Gun in an attempt to force his enemy to surrender. Kodai, not wanting to engage in direct combat, ordered Yamato to flee and hide in the nearby planet of Kappadokia. On the planet both sides were attacked by the autochthonous creatures known as Medulas which fed on the energy of the ships which were engaging near their hive-like dens. Yamato menaged to break free of the creatures by emergency warping away from the planet.

Following the Gutaba Expedition Group's failure at Kappadokia Dagam was given an ultimatum by Gatlantis's Prime Minister Sifar Saberah, he was to find the World of Tranquillity or die. Despite the minister's threat Dagam ordered his forces to follow Yamato's warp signature and continue pursuing the ship,

Battle of Shambleau[]

For this topic in more detail see, Battle of Shambleau

In an incredible stroke of luck Yamato's emergency warp had lead the ship to Shambleau, by following the ship the Gutaba Expedition Group found itself completing its mission. Dagarm happily reported to Saberah that he had located the World of Tranquillity, but after being told that he couldn't engage with the enemy forces in the area, in order to not demage the precious world, he broke into a fit of rage, broke Megaruda's communication device, and ordered his ships to bombard the planet.

Thus Yamato and the garmillan 8th Security Fleet, which had found itself stuck on the planet, joined forces in an effort to defeat the Gatlanteans. During the battle Shambleau began to reawaken, once again taking its original form as an Ark. Following an air strike which rendered his Flame Strike Gun unusable, Dagam ordered Megaruda to leave the frontline in an effort to sieze the Ark's core himself, much to the dismay of Captain Gale Paracas. Yamato then engaged Megaruda directly, destroying the ship and ending the governor general's life.

By the end of the battle all ships in the Gutaba Expedition Group and the 8th Security Fleet were destroyed, leaving only Yamato and the garmillan carrier Lamvea to continue their respective journeys.[3]

Legacy[]

Years later in December 2202, Emperor Zworder of Gatlantis and his court reviewed footage from the Battle of Shambleau as the Battle of the 11th planet raged on.[8]
