Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

Disambiguation:

The Grodez is the lead ship of the Grodez-class Annihilation Battleship, a cutting-edge warship developed by Mother Dezariam for the Dezariam Army. Commanded by Major Ramber, the Grodez's mission is to pursue, track down, and capture the Fragments of Iscandar, the Earthling space battleship Yamato, and the Earthling-Iscandarian hybrid, Sasha Iscandar Kodai, as part of the 2207 Earth Occupation Plan.

History[]

Development and construction[]

Grodez is the lead ship of the Grodez-class, a line of warships designed based on battle data recovered from the Iscandar Incident in 2205, particularly the information gathered from the Earthling battleship Yamato. This class operates under a completely different strategy compared to previous Dezarian warships, including the Golba Class.[1] Before the Earth Domination Operation, Major Ramber was appointed as the captain of the Grodez.[2]

Battles against Yamato[]

Following the conclusion of the Invasion of the Ground Reverse in October 2207,[1] the Grodez led a small fleet of Hyades-class destroyers to confront and nearly wiped out a large Bolar Federation fleet that had invaded Earth Federation space that was under the command of former Governor-General Vilke Boroze, who was also shocked by the incredible amount of destructive firepower that a single Grodez-class Annihilation Battleship possessed.[2]

Subsequently, the battleship was ordered to pursue the Yamato, one of the two "fragments of Iscandar" needed to recreate a Cosmo Reverse System. The engagement took place within the Gatlantis Belt, an area surrounding the 11th planet of the solar system. The Grodez utilized its phase armor to become invisible; however, the crew of the Yamato was able to detect it using the Dispersion Wave-motion Gun from the abandoned battleship Alpheratz. The supply carrier Asuka further immobilized the Grodez by firing a Type 4 Wave Barrier Round. Just as the Yamato was about to deliver a final blow, the Grodez managed to escape and warp away.[3]

Later, the ship engaged the Yamato again and deployed numerous Annihilation Multi-Legged Tanks Garm-Biu in an attempt to board it. The Grodez also employed its capture field to remove Major Alfon from the Yamato, who had infiltrated the ship with the intention of kidnapping Sasha Iscandar Kodai, the other fragment of Iscandar.[4]

Yamato vs Grodez firefight

The Yamato and the Grodez face off in the Orfeé Sector

Having historical records of Dezariam's interference in the past, Major Ramber was aware that the Grodez would survive any encounter with the Yamato, at least until it passed the captive Iscandar Kodai to a Pleiades-class battleship. He attempted to use this knowledge to ambush the Yamato in the Orfeé Sector. However, the Grodez and its escort were fooled into tracking a decoy ship, rather than the Yamato itself. Additionally, the Earthling commander Susumu Kodai had studied the Grodez's evasive patterns from the Battle in the 11th Planet Sector, and the Yamato used the data to attack the battleship despite its invisibility. After the Earthlings forced it into a gunfight and immobilized it with its rocket anchor, the Grodez warped away to prevent being captured. However, it had to leave behind a piece of its outer hull to escape.[5]

The Grodez later took part in another operation, devised by Mother Dezariam directly. Yamato was travelling to the intergalactic subspace gate to enter Galman-Garmillas territory. The Grodez would follow it through the subspace corridor and blast the Galman-Garmillas fleet stationed on the other side of the gate with its infinite β cannon, before immidiately turning invisible. This would pin the blame of the attack onto the Yamato, and start a confrontation between the fleet and the Earthlings. Despite his distaste for the tactic, Ramber carried out the orders.[6] However, the operation failed regardless.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

The Grodez is a counterpart of the ship of the same name from Be Forever Yamato. Its new design was drawn by Mika Akitaka.[8]

Harutoshi Fukui, the general director and screenwriter of Be Forever Yamato: REBEL 3199, is said to have said that he wanted to develop the ship into a "rival ship" for the Yamato.[8]

The design has been changed from its original series counterpart. Fin-like structures have been added to both sides and a visible bridge has been added in the upper part of the ship.[2]

The official English subtitles for chapter 3: Ultramarine Asteroid mispell its name to Glowdias.[5]
