—Extract from Praise Be Our Eternal Glory

The Great Garmillas Empire, also officially referred to as Great Imperial Garmillas,[14] and sometimes called the Greater Garmillan Empire[15][N 1] or simply the Garmillas Empire, was an intergalactic nation governing the Garmillan people. The empire was born out of the remnants of the Garmillas Grand Duchy and has since then spread far from its homeworld, the planet Garmillas, to encompass the entire Large Magellanic Cloud, much of the Small Magellanic Cloud, and parts of the Milky Way Galaxy. Its expansion was driven in part by military conquest and the absorption of other peoples into the empire.

Initially a dictatorship headed by the tyrannical Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler, in late 2199 the Great Garmillas Empire began a process of transition toward democracy, which was eventually completed by 2205. Following the end of a multilateral civil war in 2203, Desler and his supporters began working together with the democratic faction to find a new planet for the Garmillans to live on in place of the dying Garmillas.

In August 2205, the empire liberated planet Galman from the rule of the Bolar Federation, and two months afterwards, planet Garmillas was destroyed in an attack from a previously unknown alien faction known as Dezariam. One year after the event, the empire was dissolved and succeeded by Galman-Garmillas.

Baleras Palace

A view of Baleras

The city of Baleras on the planet Garmillas served as the capital of the empire, although Baleras II briefly became capital during the Battle of the Imperial capital.[16][7] Beyond Garmillas and its star system, the territory of the empire was divided into districts, such as the Nord Greater District, where the planet Alteria was located, and the Small Magellanic Greater District. The Annexation Administration Ministry managed the districts and dispatched Garmillan governors to administer them. Single planets were also administered by planetary governors called Consuls. As of 2199, the office of colonial governor of the Milky Way Galaxy was vacant and excercised by the central government, Major General Gremdt Goer planned to acquire the position while he served as Galactic Theater Commander.[17][18][19]

Under the Desler administration imperial territory continued to expand by the annexation of other species and civilizations, sometimes through wars waged by the massive Great Imperial Garmillas Astro Fleet, the space navy branch of the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force.[20][21][22] The empire also worked to colonize unpopulated places. When a world that the empire desired was not habitable, it would "Garmillasform" it, altering its environment and seeding it with various life forms from Garmillas supplied by a network of floating continents[20][23][24]. While the end of Desler's regime brought an end to the expansionary campaigns the territory that had previously been conquered by the empire remained under its control, this lead some individuals to believe that "Desler's hegemonic spirit" still loomed over the nation and that for change to happen the government needed to be deposed by force.[25]

Dessler regime

During both the Desler administration and the successive governments the head of state was backed by a series of ministries, such as the Food Production Ministry, the Ministry of Resources and Labour, the Annexation Administration Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of National Administration, the Ministry of Ammuniton, the Department of Defense, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of State, and the Ministry of Propaganda and Information.[11][16][18][26] The Garmillas Imperial Diet was the nation's parliament.[11]

Hilde Shultz

The people of the Great Garmillas Empire were organized into a two-tier system of citizenship. Members of the Garmillas species were placed into the first tier; most aliens occupied the second tier and enjoyed far fewer legal and social rights, even as they were required to demonstrate loyalty to the empire. On occasions, individual members of these other species could distinguish themselves through service or some other means and be rewarded first-class citizenship.[16][27][1] This system remained in place even after Desler's fall.[28]

The Garmillas National Security Police served as the nation's main police organization although during Desler's reign it was organized under the umbrella of the Imperial Guard, threatening the authority of the police and turning it into little more than an extention of the guard itself.[7][11][26][29]

Under the Desler Administration[]

As Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler held ultimate power over all aspects of the empire.[16] Much of his continuing authority was sustained by the Imperial Guard. Starting as a personal protection service for the Desler family, the Guard had expanded tremendously to become the ideological guardians of Desler's regime, a secret police force with wide latitude to monitor the population and punish suspected malcontents, and a heavily armed military power capable of suppressing opposition on a planetary scale.[16][17][30] Courtroom judges heard cases brought against suspects by the Imperial Guard, but in at least some instances they served only to approve the Guard's actions and not to carry out fair and impartial trials.[31] Desler's policies were enacted directly through senior staff that included civilian ministers, the director of the Imperial Guard, and the highest officers in the Imperial Force.[17][22][1]

During Desler's reign, his cabinet was headed by the Vice Leader, a position filled by Redof Hiss. The cabinet was composed of Chief Cabinet Secretary Mardo Vutter, Public Administration Minister Guerlain Mooren, Finance Minister Merdom Narkin, Labour Minister Thol Toad, Justice Minister Logue Moram, Annexation Administration Minister Hidore Zarume, Defence Secretary and Armament Minister Welte Talan, Minister of Propaganda and Information Miezela Celestella, Secretary of Internal Affairs Banom Besh and Food Production Minister Dotem Goehin, up until his summary execution on March 5, 2199.[16][32][33]

One of Desler's primary goals was to unify his regime with that of the nearby planet Iscandar and its ruler, Queen Stasha Iscandar. Garmillas military and civilian personnel alike showed reverence to the queen and members of the Iscandarian royal family, but the process of unification stalled in its later stages due to Desler's increasing use of violence.[34][35]

Following the fall of Desler's regime, the most brutal and authoritarian aspects of the political system were removed by a provisional government as part of its reforms, although other institutions were left in place, including the empire's powerful military, close ties with Iscandar and the caste system.[35][2][36][37][38] Redof Hiss served as the first Prime Minister of the provisional government, but left office between 2199 and 2203 to serve as Secretary of Internal Affairs. He was later elected Prime Minister of the first Garmillan elected government and served in the position up until his death in late 2205.[39][5][40]

The defunct Imperial Guard's role as the nation's secret service was taken by Garmillas Security Intelligence Agency, which was under the control of the Department of Internal Affairs.[39]

History[]

Origins[]

Slaves to Iscandar[]

The Garmillas people originally lived on planet Galman, where their biological evolution was influenced by an ancient alien civilasation known as Archelias, which discovered the species' homeworld and seeded it with its own genetic material.[41]

Iscandar Garmillas Legend

The Iscandarians lead a group of Garmanns to Garmillas

Thousands of years before the 23rd century, the Iscandarian civilization selected the Garmanns and moved a group of them to a perfect copy of their homeworld they had recreated on Iscandar's twin planet using the Cosmo Reverse System. Their objective was to use this group to bring war to other civilisations in order to crystalise those civilisations' memories in a wave-motion state inside of a vault called Sanctel. They had chosen the Garmanns due to their inability to live long-term anywhere but on the planet Iscandar had gifted them, thus making them unable to rebel. The world and species was thus renamed Garmillas which meant "Galman Apes" in Iscandarian. At some point the Iscandarians opted to go through the process of entombing themselves into Sanctel, leaving only the Royal Family with their physical bodies in order to guard their eternal sleep. Queen Stasha Iscandar grew to regret the action of her people and tried to build a new, more equal relationship with the garmillans.[42]

The Grand Duchy[]

By year 2096 planet Garmillas was under the rule of several lords and nobles. Around this time Erich Vam Desler, the head of the noble Desler family, set out to unify the planet in a campaign that would come to be known as the Unification War. The war ended only in 2170 with Erich's coronation to Grand Duke of Garmillas and the founding of the Garmillas Grand Duchy; the coronation however, did not stop tensions between the various nobles, making the Grand Duchy unstable. In 2174 Erich revealed to a group of nobles that their planet was appraoching the end of its life cicle, unbeknownst to them this was due to the way that the Cosmo Reverse System had been used millennias prior to create a copy of Galman.[42]

In 2184 Grand Duke Vam Desler died, leaving behind a power vacuum, civil war englufed Garmillas, and the nation collapsed.[39][10]

The Rise and Fall of Abelt Desler[]

In the same year, Abelt Desler emerged from his Garmillan noble family to stand up for reunification, finally succeding in his goal in year 2188, Desler declared the Great Garmillas Empire and assumed the throne[16][30]. Lead by the knowledge that planet Garmillas was rapidly approaching the end of its life cicle[10], he traveled to the planet Iscandar, a long-time object of reverence among the people of Garmillas, and personally appealed to Queen Stasha to build a relationship between his empire and the dying remains of her own. Stasha accepted his proposal, and Desler pledged himself to the Iscandarian philosophy of spreading life and peace throughout the universe, in doing so he created the Desler Doctrine, a fusion of Stasha's ideals and Desler's own desire to expand the empire to find a new homeworld for the garmillan people in place of the dying Garmillas.[10][43] The empire's campaign of conquest expanded to an immense scale that enjoyed victories against other powers such as the Gatlantis Empire, with which Garmillas was fighting a territorial dispute over the Small Magellanic Cloud.[41] The rapid expansion brought Garmillas unprecedented wealth and power, but began to severely stretch its resources.[10][34] However even while Desler was at the height of his power, the remaining nobles of the Grand Duchy that had menaged to install themselves at the peak of the empire's military heirarchy, devised a plot to turn Baleras Tower, the Leader's seat of power, into a weapon with which to threaten Iscandar. This was done without the consent of Abelt and in a desperate bid to force Queen Stasha to git Garmillas with a Cosmo Revrse System, a device which the aristocrats hoped could reverse their planet's imminent death.[10] Within Garmillan territory, Desler tightened his grip on the population by permitting prejudice against non-Garmillan citizens of the empire to persist, marginalizing the old aristocracy, and instituting the feared Imperial Guard.[30][44] He also took advantage of Iscandar's technological superiority by beginning development of wave motion energy systems and weapons.[1][35]

The Imperial Guard moves to obliterate insurrection on one of its subject worlds.

Desler's increasingly autocratic rule generated resentment and acts of opposition that ultimately doomed his regime. In 2199, the 1000th anniversay of the empire,[45] the chief inspector of the central army Herm Zoellik, conspired to assassinate Desler in 2199 in an attempt to take leadership of the empire for himself and re-establish the aristocracy. Desler learned of the conspiracy, enabling him to escape death and trick Zoellik into revealing his intentions, but by doing so, leading to the destruction of the Aquarius gate network and a large portion of the empire's military assets in a surprise alien attack.[17][22][31] However, a much greater threat was posed by growing rebel movements among citizens of the empire,[1][17] and by a decision on the part of Queen Stasha to secretly supply the distant planet Earth with plans for a wave motion engine after it had been bombed to the brink of extinction.[20] Equipped with the new technology, the human space battleship Yamato began a long journey to Iscandar to save Earth, defeating the Garmillas military in battle after battle and inspiring further uprisings.[17][46][47] The ship's crew eventually made direct contact with rebel leaders and pledged to coordinate future actions.[1]

Desler announced the "Great Unification"

Thanks to information retireved by his minister of propaganda during a psychic attack on Yamato, Desler discovered the presence of thre Iscandarian Princess Yurisha on board of the battleship, who had been sent by Stasha together with the plans for the wave-motion engine.[48] The Supreme Leader planned to use the Princess to onvince the people of his world that the leadership of Iscandar had agreed to the "great unification" of the two binary planets. For this reason he ordered a mission to kidnap the Iscandarian, however due to the limited amount of information at their disposal, the squad sent to infiltrate Yamato accidentally kidnapped a terran woman instead.[47] Despite learning of this Desler decided to go on with the plan and announced to his people that the unification was going to happen at a grand celebration held in honor of a fallen garmillan general.[1]

Soon afterward, Yamato directly fought against Desler and Garmillan forces on and near Garmillas itself. The ship and its crew twice stopped Desler from using Baleras II, an armored space fortress being built by the Supreme Leader as the new capital of the unified Garmillas and Iscandar, in an attack against the Imperial Capital which would've annhilated both Yamato and Baleras Tower, the den where various former aristocrats plotted against him.[26] The action however would have come with the price of the lives of much of thousands of civilians. At the end of the battle, Baleras II was completely destroyed, and it was assumed that Abelt Desler had been killed in the blast. Vice Leader Redof Hiss quickly moved in, filling the power vacuum to prevent political turmoil and declared a provisional government that included leaders of the rebellion, and to negotiate a ceasefire with the United Nations by signing an armistice with the commanding officer of Yamato which also included a ban on wave motion weapons.[35][8][49]

Reconstruction and reforms[]

Provvisional government

Princess Yurisha (on the right) joined the Provisional Government

Following the declaration of the provisional government Redoff Hiss, now Prime Minister, engaged in a series of reforms with the ultimate objective of rebuilding the empire into a democracy while maintaining national order. However despite abolishing many of the most autoritarian aspects of Desler's regime, such as the Imperial Guard, the new government could not dismantle the powerful military forces that had been previously built up, especially due to the existance of the Gatlantis Empire and the threat it still posed for Garmillas. The tense political climate brought by the tentative peace with the Earth and Desler's disappearance, was eased by the Third Princess of Iscandar Yurisha, who committed herself to go to Garmillas and help in the rebuilding of the nation, strengthening the ties between the two binary planets. Eventually Hiss left his post of Prime Minister, but continued to serve as Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs.[2][39]

Dessler regime revivalists

The Desler Regime Revivalists aimed to restore the Desler administration

However not every citizen of Garmillas was satisfied with the way the provisional government was handling the rebuilding of the nation. Even mere months after the Battle of the Imperial capital some factions within the military rebelled against the central government and instead pledged their support to a secretely still alive Desler.[37] In the following years the empire would have to face up against the Destruction Liberation Army, a terrorist organisation which was born out of discontent with the government not granting independence to all of the worlds annexed under Desler's reign;[25] and the Desler Regime Revivalists, a group lead by former Imperial Guard director Hydom Gimleh which wished to reinstate a dictatorship, believing it to be the only form of government capable of saving Garmillas from the inevitable destruction of its home planet, arose, together with a faction of hardliners opposing the nascent alliance with Earth.[26][50]

In order to track down the leaders of the Revivalists Loren Burrell of the Security Intelligence Agency devised a plan to make the heir of the Desler family infiltrate within the ranks of the terror group, in order to gain their trust and to eventually arrest them once the opportunity arose.[26]

Alliance with Earth[]

One month into Yamato's voyage back to Earth, it fought alongside a Garmillan carrier group to defeat an expeditionary force of the Gatlantis Empire during the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity.[35][41] In 2200, the Great Garmillas War was officially ended.[51] In the following years the Garmillas Empire established full diplomatic relations with the newly established[52] Earth Federation, with the two powers signing a mutual security pact, and by the year 2202 an embassy was active on Earth's Moon with Loren Burrell serving as ambassador to the federation on Garmillas's behalf. On December 2, 2202 both powers assembled a massive task force to drive back a newly empowered Gatlantis from one of the Garmillan floating continents which had been occupied by the so called "barbarians", who had gained an unprecedented technological advantage in recent years.[38][50][53]

Behind the scenes, elements of the Garmillan government collaborated with Earth leaders to construct a new fleet of warships armed with wave motion guns, violating the armistice.[53]

Yamato's new journey and Desler's return[]

On December 8 of the same year the former crewmembers of Yamato were contacted by the goddess Teresa of Terezart. When Burrell found out he contacted Yamato's acting captain and revealed him the truth about the Earth's time fault factory where the federation and garmillas had been building up their forces.[38][53] When the battleship's crew rebelled against the United Nations Cosmo Force to launch on an unauthorised mission towards the planet Terezart, Burrell pressured the E.F.G. President to ratify the journey. He also sent out Lieutenant Klaus Keyman, secretely Ranhardt Desler, nephew of Abelt, to aide the crew as a consultant.[54]

Dessler Fleet Terezart

Desler's forces assembled on Terezart

Keyman's participation in Yamato's new mission lead the battleship to once again be entangled in the Garmillas Civil War. The battleship became a target of the Desler Regime Revivalists during a four-way battle on planet Stravase between them, the UNCN, Gatlantis and the Destruction Liberation Army; and when fallen Supreme Leader Abelt Desler revealed himself to be still alive, and took control of Terezart in early 2203.[25][10][55]

Desler, who had served Gatlantis's Emperor for the past 4 years,[56] intended to use the planet as a baragaining chip to force the gatlanteans to assist him in finding a new planet for the garmillan people. When Keyman revealed himself as his nephew and informed the Revivalists of Abelt's resurgence, Gimleh decided to come out in the open and pledged his organisation's support to carry out a coup and take full control of the Great Garmillas Empire. Keyman was quick to take the opportunity, he informed Burrell of the location and identity of the Revivalists's leader and the organisation HQ was stormed by the National Security Police. Desler's forces were defeated on Terezart and the Supreme Leader was forced to once again serve the Gatlantis Empire.[26][10]

The Gatlantis_Campaign[]

In May of 2203 Gatlantis advanced into the Solar System, penetrating deep into Earth Federation territory. The Great Garmillas Empire offered support to their allies despite the absence of any security agreement binding them to do so. A fleet of garmillan warships engaged with Gatlantis during the Attack on the annihilation missile fleet while another one headed by Burrell held the Mars absolute defense line during the first phase of the Decisive Battle off Mars.[57][58]

Desler once again battled Yamato at Gatlantis's orders on the first of June. During the battle he confronted both his nephew, Yamato's tactics officer Susumu Kodai and the gatlantean spokeperson Mil. When Mil was accidentally killed by one of his soldiers, estinguishing any possibility for a diplomatic solution to the raging war, Desler agreed to switch sides and to support Yamato during the coming battle.[59][60]

The following day Desler's flagship and Yamato were joined by the bulk of the Great Imperial Garmillas Astro Fleet, in a final attempt to stop Gatlantis from taking over the Earth. The battle proved to be a success and the gatlantean threat was estinguished, ending the conflict between Gatlantis and Garmillas.[60]

Searching for a new home[]

In the months following the end of the Gatlantis_Campaign Desler's faction made peace with the Great Garmillas Empire, ending the Civil War. Certain members of the Desler Regime Revivalists and the former Desler administration were released and joined Abelt's new forces, while other exponents of the Revivalists sided with the Provisional government, which eventually completed the empire's transition to a full democracy and was replaced by a new democratic government. Hiss once again took the post of Prime Minister.[5][61]

The empire's new government was informed by Desler of the tragic fate that was awaiting planet Garmillas but was initially skeptical of the former dictator's claim. However, an investigation of the planet's core was carried out under solicitations from a part of the armed forces loyal to Desler, and the truth was confirmed. Together the two factions began cooperating to look for a new home planet for their people. The former Supreme Leader was given two new flagships by the Astro Fleet and the Weapons Development Agency, and a new support unit to aid him in his search[5][62] and Admiral Ditz sent out various exploratory fleets in secret. At the same time the government drafted plans for a mass migration and gradually revealed the truth to the garmillan people. On January 2204 the Garmillas Migration Plan was formally announced without an official planned destination. The Earth Federation pledged its full support to their allies and a program to convert leftover Dreadnought-class Vanguard Starships into migratory vessles was established.[63]

Galman people

The Galman people lived under the brutal regime of Bolar

Eventually, Queen Stasha secretely leaked to the Desler Fleet information regarding the existance of planet Galman, the original lost homeworld of the Garmillas species, which had fallen under the brutal occupation of an interstellar power called the Bolar Federation.[63][42] Desler established contact with the people of Galman and began working to negotiate the control of the planet and the independence of its peoples with the federation, in the meantime, knowing that the negotiations could have failed at any moment, he began to make plans to liberate Galman by force. His words galvanised the Garmanns and their leadership who were ready to become their homeplanet's shield.[5][63]

In January 2205, when the destination of the Migration plan was announced, the Earth was reluctant to actively aid the Garmillas Empire, due to their still ongoing reconstruction effort and their vicinity to the Bolar Federation. At this time the Earth launched the 65th Escort Corps, with Yamato as its flagship, which was planned to make a diplomatic trip to Garmillas and Iscandar as a way to showcase the Earth's new peaceful foreign policy.[63][64]

2205 Bolar

The Bolar delegation that negotiated with Desler

Eventually, in August of 2205,[65] negotiations were formally opened between Desler and the Bolar Governor-General of Galman Vilke Boroze. The Supreme Leader argued that Galman itself had no value to Bolar and he promised eternal friendship between Garmillas and the federation in exchange for the planet. When Boroze refused to accept Garmillans on the planet unless they swore allegiance to the Bolar Federation, Desler's forces siezed it by force, destroying the occupying Bolar fleet and liberating it in the name of the Garmillas Empire. Soon after, Desler left Galman to assist the first way of migrants while Admiral Ditz and his fleet remained to guard the planet. By this time, planet Garmillas only had about five months before its uninevitable collapse.[64]

Dezariam and the destruction of Garmillas[]

For this topic in more detail, see Iscandar Incident

Garmillas destruction

Planet Garmillas was destroyed in a sudden attack

On October 16 of 2205,[65] a mysterious faction known as Dezariam attacked planet Garmillas with an enormous storm of Dezariam Hammers, nearly undestructable devices capable of destroying entire planets.[66][40] Their real target was not actually Garmillas itself, but rather its twin planet Iscandar, which they intended to tow to their homeworld to fullfill their "Thousand Years Dream".[5][67] The attack ravaged the already unstable Garmillas causing its surface to shatter. Despite the combined efforts of the regular forces and the Desler fleet. the planet was lost. killing two-thirds of its population who were yet to begin migrating, and destroying part of the migratory convoy. Prime Minister Hiss was among the many victims of the event.[40][68]

When the Earth Federation caught word of the destruction of Garmillas the diplomatic trip was immediately cancelled out of fear of the attack having been carried out by Bolar, and the possibility of the Earth being caught in another conflict. Despite these fears the 65th Escort Corps decided to act independently and defied Defense HQ's orders to fight alongside Desler and the remaining garmillas forces.[68]

The resulting war was fought on and near the moving Iscandar, which had become a temporary shelter for the surviving migrants.[42][67][68][69][70] Despite Dezarium's clear technological superiority,[67][69] Queen Stasha managed to stop the Dezariam forces by self-destructing planet Iscandar, annhilating the invading forces. Before her death, Stasha revealed to Desler and Yamato's commander the Garmillas people's origin as slaves to the Iscandarians, finally bringing to light the truth that had remained hidden for thousands of years.[70]

Dissolution and rebirth[]

Galman liberated

A view of the liberated planet Galman

After the end of the conflict Desler led the remaining Garmillan forces and migrants towards planet Galman, their new home.[70] In 2206, the nation of Galman-Garmillas was founded and replaced the Garmillas Empire. The war with Bolar is still ongoing as of October 2207.[12][71]

Alternate timeline[]

According to the history of the future broadcasted in 2207 by holy leader Skulldart of Dezariam, in the original timeline from which Dezariam originates, where the Iscandar Incident did not occur, the Great Garmillas Empire transitioned in 2206 to the Galman-Garmillas Empire. These events were apparently altered by Dezariam's intervention in 2205.[13]

Under Desler's regime many facets of the Great Garmillas Empire's society came to be dominated by militarism and nationalism, promoted by the ideological programs carried out by the Ministry of Propaganda and by the Imperial Guard's pervasive surveillance of the public and their hunt for dissidents.[7][30][34] Although Desler himself never showed any semblace of xenophobia against his conquered subjects,[1][46] feelings of Garmillan superiority in regards to other conquered races were shared by many of the highest members of garmillan society.[34][72] These ideals had been carried over from the Grand Duchy together with the two-class system.[10] Despite this, second-class citizens often time proved to be as patriotic and loyal as pureblooded Garmillans.[1][6] Even after the fall of the Eternal Supreme Leader, patriotic sentiments continued to characterise the empire, although the most brutal and militaristic aspects of society were dropped.[2][39][58][60][64]

As a result of their origins as a slave species to the Iscandarians, the Garmillans show great reverence for the people and culture of Iscandar, making the planet into what a Terran observer once described as an "object of worship".[34] This aspect of Garmillan culture, like many others, was also taken up by imperial citizens of conquered races.[1][6]

Civil uniforms[]

This section is for the uniforms worn by the civil officers of the Great Garmillas Empire, for those worn by military or police officers see Imperial Garmillas Defense Force, Imperial Guard, and Garmillas National Security Police

In the Great Garmillas Empire uniforms, similar to those of the military, were also worn by civil officers such as ministers and governors.[7][18][38][17]

Notes[]

  • The Great Garmillas Empire proper was founded in 2188 as stated in Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love Chapter 5's program book and as seen in "Farewell Teresa, Flower for Two Deslers". However the program book also marks the year 2199 as the 1000th anniversary of the Empire as does Vice Leader Hiss in "Wish Upon a Star".[16][26] It's possible that the 1000 years count starts before the official founding of the Empire and dates back to the first territories held by the Desler family.
  • The official name usually used in Japanese is "大ガミラス帝星 (Dai gamirasu tei sei)", which litterally translates to "Great Garmillas Imperial Planet" and is the same name used to refer to planet Garmillas. It's translated on screen as "Great Imperial Garmillas",[14] while the official English localization of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and its sequels translate it as "Great Garmillas Empire".[16]
  • The official Twitter page for the mobile game Space Battleship Yamato: Voyagers of Tomorrow translates its name as "Greater Garmillan Empire".[74]

  1. While this could be considered a translation of the regular name of the empire in Japanese, instead of an alternative name, the wording "ガミラス帝国", as well as the official translation of the legitimate Garmillas Empire (both seen on screen in "Shocking! The Dezarium's Dark Millennium of History!") imply that "Great Garmillas Empire" is an accurate translation.
