Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

Grand Chief Commissioner was a title within the Gatlantis Empire, bore by the regional governor of an area.[1][4] The Controlling Agency was the highest institution in the Gatlantis Empire responsible for the administration of occupied territory.[6]

Goram "Thunderclap" Dagam, a Direct Warrior of Great Emperor Zworder and the commander of the Gutaba Expedition Group, was the Grand Chief Commissioner of the Gutaba Area by 2199.[1][4]

Behind the scenes[]

Like other titles used in the Gatlantis Empire and introduced in Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark, Grand Chief Commissioner (大都督, Daitotoku) is the Japanese pronounciation of a title used in feudal China (大都督, Dà dūdū). In ancient China, the title was first used in the Han dinasty.[7] More literally, it could be translated as "Grand Commander", but it's translated in a variety of other ways, including "Grand Governor",[8] "Grand Chief Controller",[9] "Grand Commander".[10] The English subtitles for Odyssey of the Celestial Ark translate it as "Chief Commander".[4] This wiki uses the translation "Grand Chief Commissioner" seen in the paper "Chinese-English Dictionary of Ming Government Official Titles" of the University of California, Irvine.[11]
