Gliese 581 Yamato gaseous life form

The star Gliese 581, in the path of Yamato and the gaseous life form pursuing it.

Gliese 581 is a red dwarf star in the Milky Way Galaxy, 20.4 light years from Earth. The star is orbited by at least five planets, three of which, Gliese 581c, Gliese 581d, and Gliese 581g, exist within the star's habitable zone where liquid water can be supported; one of these three may be suitable for colonization by humans[1][2][3].

In early 2199, the United Nations Cosmo Navy space battleship Yamato successfully made a nearly twelve light-year warp from the vicinity of Sirius to the Gliese 581 system. Prior to their arrival, Supreme Leader Abelt Desler of the Greater Garmillan Empire had ordered the star's plasma flares to be amplified in order to create powerful hyper-dense filaments that interfered with Yamato's movement through space. Desler then launched two attacks against the ship, a dangerous gas-based life form and a vessel of his empire's war fleet. Yamato navigated through the only available gaps in the filaments toward Gliese 581 and flew close to its fiery surface. The star's massive energy output consumed the life form, and Yamato opened a temporary passage through a solar prominence with its wave motion gun, a passage that quickly closed and melted the pursuing Garmillas vessel[4].
