The Garmillas Grand Duchy was an interstellar nation[3] and the first planet-state[4] in Garmillan history, it was created after the end of Erik Vam Desler's Unification War.[2]

In 2096, the head of the influential aristocratic Desler family, set out to unify Planet Garmillas, which up until than had been divided among various noble families. The war ended in 2170, with the founding of the Garmillas Grand Duchy at the hands of Grand Duke Erik Vam Desler. Just four years later, Eriksummoned a council of nobles at Baleras, to reveal the news that their planet's life cicle would end in just over a few decades. The young Abelt Desler, Erik's eight years old nephew, was found spying the council. The young Desler was forced to either undergo the Blood Oath or be executed, under guidance of his older brother Mathius Desler, heir apparent to the Grand Duchy, he chose the former.[1][2]

In 2180, Mathius died in combat,[4] and was soon followed by the Grand Duke just four years later. The death of the head of state caused the erruption of a brutal succession war, which caused the total collapse of the nation.[1][2]
Legacy[]
After his uncle's death, Abelt started to fight to reunify the Grand Duchy. In 2188 he named himself Supreme Leader for life and declared the Greater Garmillan Empire.[1][2]

The Garmillas Grand Duchy was born after Grand Duke Erik unified the aristocratic families that had ruled Garmillas for years up until 2170, for this reason the newborn nation was governed by a strong aristocracy. A small group of selected nobles who had performed a ritual known as the "Blood Oath" could be summoned by the Grand Duke to make important decisions over the future of the country. In 2174, the council was composed of Grand Duke Erik, Mathius Desler,[1] Gerd Arlen, Garsten Frinza, Zolf Dolgen, and Barjin Drares.[5] The Grand Duchy's subjects were divided between first and second class subjects, much like in the later Greater Garmillan Empire. Pureblood Garmillans occupied the first class while the alien peoples conquered by the Grand Duchy occupied the second.[1][2]
The Grand Duke reigned from his mansion, the private residence of the Desler family. The Baleras Knights were in charge of the personal security of the Grand Duke.[2][6]
