Garmillan (GARMILLAZIBO, garmillazibo)[1][2] is a language of the Garmillatic family, closely related to the Iscandar language, and the only language spoken by the Garmillans the dominant species of the Greater Garmillan Empire.

As the primary language of the empire, it was spoken through a vast territory that included both Magellanic Clouds and parts of the Milky Way, leading to numerous written exception. Numerous regional variants existed even only on planet Garmillas itself.

Garmillas is spoken by the various species conquered by the Garmillans, such as the Zaltzi, and it is also used regularly on Earth alongside other Earthling languages.

Classification[]

Garmillas descends from the Pan-Archelias protolanguage and belongs to the Garmillatic family of the Macro-Magellanic family of languages.[3] It shares considerable similarities with the Iscandar language, with their alphabet and many words being almost identical, and it's assumed that the gap between the two can be considered a regional difference.[1] Iscandar is even sometimes referred to as "Holy Garmillas". [3]

Garmillas has several regional variants, including western hemisphere highland pormelic, western hemisphere highland gelvadenic, western hemisphere lowland kelkapfic, zelgudenic, and eastern highlandic, aside from the standard (popular) Garmillas.[3]

The two versions of the Garmillas alphabet side by side

The Garmillas language is written using the Garmillas alphabet, whose glyphs are comparable to those of the latin alphabet.[1]

There exist two versions of this alphabet: the most commonly used version, and a fine print variant.[4]

Garmillas has thousands of spelling and pronounciation exceptions in its written forms, due to the vastness of the territory on which it is spoken.[1]

Grammar[]

The Garmillan language has a rigid Subject-Verb-Object order like the Earthling Indo-European languages German, Russian, and English, and it is Isolating language like the English and Chinese.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The Garmillas script appears to bare some similarity to Cuneiform, the ancient Mesopotamian script, being made up of simple angular shapes and lines.

Notes[]

  • While the Garmillas vocabulary includes many words,[1] sometimes Garmillas writing appearing on screen is simply gibberish[5][6] or English transliterated in Garmillan alphabet.[7]
  • In the English dub for Space Battleship Yamato 2199, all Garmillas dialogue has been replaced with meaningless words.[8][9]
