The First Contact with Garmillas[5] was the event in which the Greater Garmillan Empire and the United Nations established first contact with each other. It was also the first battle between the two parties and the first of the Great Garmillas War. For the first time in their history the earthlings encountered an alien race, the garmillas. The earthling fleet that first encountered and fought the extraterrestrial was the United Nations Cosmo Navy's Japanese Fleet, headed by the famed war hero Okita Juzo. While it was the garmillans intention to instigate the inferior earthlings to fight them, so that they could have a proper casus belli to declare war over, ultimately it was of the United Nations' Defense Committee to order to fire first. This unfortunate decision would lead to one of the bloodiest conflicts that humanity ever saw as well as a complete shift in the power dynamic between the different human species.

Prelude[]

Garmillas first contact

The three cruisers filmed by the Uranus Survailance Station

Following the founding of the Greater Garmillan Empire Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler began looking for a planet that could suit as a new home for the garmillans in place of the dying planet Garmillas, he set his eyes on Earth in the Milky Way Galaxy, a world which he believed could be "garmillasformed" to suit his species' needs.[6]

On April 1, 2199 three garmillas warships were spotted by the Uranus SurveillanceStation, the United Nations Cosmo Force immediately launched the Japanese Fleet and the Inner Planetary Defense Fleet to intercept them. The formation was headed by Admiral Okita who had become famous for his heroics during the Second Inner Planetary War.[3]

Encounter[]

The Murasame-class space cruiser Murasame, commanded by captain Daigo Shima, was the first earthling ship to met with the aliens, it was Shima's firm belief that peace with the aliens was possible.[3]

However at that time the standard Garmillas tactic was to put pressure on the enemy to make them attack first, and only then launch an invasion once the empire had a justifiable casus belli and, unfurtunately for them, the earthlings fell right onto the aliens' trap. General Kotetsu Serizawa, the UN director of military affairs, hailed Okita and ordered him to open fire on the alien, stating that the Space Defense Committee had elected to act preemptively rather than being caught off guard.[3][1]

Due to Okita's stern refusal to attack Serizawa relieved him of command on the spot, and ordered Murasame to open fire himself. Despite his initial esitation Shima was forced to obey his superior's order and began the attack on the garmillans.[3]

The vastly superior enemy quickly outfired Murasame and forced Shima to order all hands to abbandon the ship, the ship's chief engineer, Sususmu Yamazaki, guided the evacuation and ended up being the last surviving member of the crew. The following garmillan counterattack destroyed 70% of the earthling fleets.[3]

Aftermath[]

In the following years garmillas moved in deeper in the solar system, in 2192 the UNCN held an absolute line of defense around the asteroid belt during the First Battle of Mars. Okita was eventually pardoned and given the command of the reorganised UNCN forces.[1]

The United Nations command placed the entire incident under military secrecy, and lied to the general population stating that the garmillans had attacked first, on the other hand Supreme Leader Desler's government promptly spread the news of the earthling violence, painting them as a lower and violent race that needed to be conquered.[3] At least one propaganda film was filmed by the UN about the incident, which glorified the deaths of captain Daigo Shima and the crew of the Murasame.[3]

Okita reveals the truth

In 2199 Daigo's son Daisuke boarded the space battleship Yamato on her journey towards Iscandar, at some point Yamazaki decided to tell him the truth about what had happened on the day of his father's death, but the young officers refused to believe his words. Eventually Okita would also reveal the truth to another officer aboard the battleship.[3][7]
