The Far-East District Underground City, also known as Greater Tokyo City,[3] and founded as the United Nations Far-East District Evacuation Underground City,[4] is an underground city that served as the capital of the Far-East District during the Great Garmillas War. It was the seat of the Far East Command HQ.[1][5]
Overview[]
The Far-East District Underground City was the capital of the United Nations' Far-East District. It was the seat of United Nations Cosmo Force Far East Command HQ and of Program Yamato Headquarters.[5] The Far-East District Underground City had its own security forces, which included the 7th Space Cavalry Regiment by early 2199.[6] It also had an hospital, Central Hospital.[5] It was divided in numbered areas, which themselves were divided in numbered districts which were divided into numbered wards. Known areas in the city were the 10th and 21st Areas, known districts were District 116 and 204, and known wards were Ward 10 and Ward 04.[7]
A circular hole with a radius of several hundreds of meters connected the surface to the underground city. During the Great Garmillas War, the hole was covered by a lid to prevent polluted air from entering the city, but it was removed afterwards.[8]
History[]
The Far-East District Underground City was constructed during the Inner Planetary Wars under the name of United Nations Far-East District Evacuation Underground City, with the purpose of serving as a shelter for the interplanetary conflict.[4] The city was reopened together with the other underground cities during the Garmillas War, eventually becoming the last stronghold of the Earthling race.[1] By early 2199, riots began to errupt in the Far East district due to worsening life conditions, by the latter part of the year the district's leadership was forced to use the city's security forces, including 7th UNCM regiment, to pacify the protests.[5][6]
Following the end of the war the founding of the Earth Federation the Far-East District Underground City was abbandoned but the Earth Federation's New Capital was built above it.[9]
In December 2202 the abandoned city was reopened to allow the evacuation of the new Capital's citizens during the Eighth Floating Continet Recapture Operation, it was later visited by Lieutenant Susumu Kodai. In June 2203, during the Golem Assault Battle, the city was reopened to once more evacuate the capital's inhabitants.[2][10]
In October 2207, during the Invasion of the Ground Reverse, the Ground Reverse Dezarian fortress landed outside of the New Capital.[11] Its stabilizers penetrated deep into the Earth, entering the Far-East District Underground City.[12]
