The Far-East District, also called simply Far East,[4] is an administrative division of the United Nations and of the Earth Federation. During the Great Garmillas War, it was led by Chief Executive Heikuro Todo of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs with Kotetsu Serizawa as Director of its Military Affairs Bureau. It also serves as a military district for the United Nations Cosmo Force and for the United Nations Forces in general.

The Far-East District was one of the United Nations administrative areas active under the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs, as well as a military district of the United Nations Cosmo Force[5] and the United Nations Joint Forces in general.[6] It had authority over a series[7] of underground cities, including its capital, the Far-East District Underground City, the seat of the UNCF Far East Command HQ, and one located in Bōsō District.[8] It was led by Chief Executive Heikuro Todo and by the Far-East District Excecutive Branch. It had its own Military Affairs Bureau, headed by General Kotetsu Serizawa.[1][2] Under the Chief Executive stood the Far-East District Staff Office, under which the Strategy Department 6th Section and the Strategy Department 9th Section were organized, both staffed by United Nations Cosmo Force personnel.[9][10][11] The Far-East District had its own security forces, which included the UNCM 7th Space Cavalry Regiment following their rescue from the Moon in early 2199.[12]

The Far-East District is divided into regions, such as the Japan Region[13] and districts, such as Bōsō District.[7] Underground cities of the Far-East Districts were divided into Areas, Districts and Wards.[14] Known city districts of the Far-East District were District 6, District 7, District 8, District 13, District 21, District 27, and District 702, as well as District 116 and 204, which were located in the Far-East District Underground City.[1][13][12] Sectors also existed within the Far-East District, such as Sector 18 and Sector 47.[12]
The Far-East District has its own broadcasting corporation, Far East Broadcast.[1]
Under the Earth Federation[]
Following the founding of the Earth Federation, it continues to exist under the new government with its new headquarters located at Earth Defense Force Headquarters.[5][6] Bōsō District continues to exist under the new political system as of 2202.[8]
History[]
The Far East existed before the Great Garmillas War and even the Inner Planetary Wars. In 2145, on the anniversary of the end of World War II, various war relics were restored and then destroyed in a solemn cerimony for the 200 years since the event. The Far East chose to restore the Japanese battleship Yamato.[15]

By the last year of the 22nd century, much like other UN administrative areas, the Far-East District had largely become isolated by the rest of the world due to the ongoing planet bomb-bombardment by the Greater Garmillan Empire.[1] The Far-East District was the main proponent of Program Yamato, with Chief Executive Todo also serving as Chief of Program Yamato Headquarters, which was mainly staffed by Strategy Department 9th Section officers.[2][10]

Riots exploded rather frequently in the Far-East District as of 2199. Riots broke out in District 6 on February 9,[16] at 16:30,[17] and again two days after in response to Program Yamato's announcement. The announcement also triggered a terrorist attack in District 7's management center building.[1] As 2199 went on, riots started to become more and more frequent due to the worsening life conditions, with the District's leadership being forced to use the 7th UNCM regiment to turn their guns towards civilians to put fown the violent protests.[12]
Following the founding of the Earth Federation, the Far East continued to exist.[18][7][14] While Earth's reconstruction progressed globally, its effects were primarily felt in the Far East by 2202. The region had rapidly become the world's economic and political center, with the highest concentration of Garmillas immigrants.[19]
In 2207, following the Invasion of the Ground Reverse,[20] the Dezarian major Alfon was appointed to oversee the Far East as part of Dezariam's 2207 Earth Occupation Plan.[21]
Behind the scenes[]
The character description for Heikuro Todo mistakenly refers to the Far-East District as a subdivision of the Earth Federation instead of the United Nations.[2]
The English adaption calls the district Far East Sector.[1] The official english translation is seen on screen in "Begin the Secret Operation! Head for the New Yamato!".[20]
