Eternal Supreme Leader, often referred to simply as Supreme Leader (phuzeron, Phuzeron)[6][7][8] is the title of the head of state of the Greater Garmillan Empire used by Abelt Desler during and after the Desler administration.
History[]
During Desler's reign[]
In 2188, at the end of the Civil War Over the Rights of Succession, Abelt Desler declared the Greater Garmillan Empire and assumed the title of Eternal Supreme Leader. He ruled as an autocrat for the following 11 years although his power was threatened multiple times by political opponents and even by his own family.[9][10][11][1] Eventually in late 2199 following the end of the Battle of the Imperial Capital Desler went missing in action and was presumed to be dead, a new Provisional Government took office and began a series of reforms to turn the empire into a democracy.[2][12]
The revivalists and the Desler fleet[]
In the years following Desler's apparent death various factions began a scramble for power in the unstable Greater Garmillan Empire, chief among them were the Desler Regime Revivalists, a terrorist group headed by former Imperial Guard Director General Hydom Gimleh with the aim of restoring the dictatorship.[10][13][3]
Gimleh wanted to give the title of Eternal Supreme Leader to Abelt's nephew Ranhardt Desler, however, when Abelt himself reemerged at the head of the Desler fleet in early 2203, the young Desler agreed to give the title back to his uncle. Unbeknownst to Gimleh however, Ranhardt was actually an undercover agent of the Security Intelligence Agency and the Revivalists' plans were thwarted.[10][3]
Abelt and his forces escaped and eventually the fallen Supreme Leader made peace with the new government. Despite this, he continued to use the title of Eternal Supreme Leader as far as 2205 during the Planet_Galman_Liberation_Operation.[14][15]
Notes[]
- The Japanese word 総統 (Sōtō) is the one used to translate the titles of many dictators from the 20th century, including Hitler's "Führer", Mussolini's "Generalissimo" and Franco's "Caudillo"
- Desler's character description for Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love[16] and Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey[17] both describe him as the "Former Eternal Supreme Leader of the Greater Garmillan Empire", but in both series he continues to use the title.[3][15]
- The title is translated as "Chancellor" in the english dub for Space Battleship Yamato 2199[18] and as "Supreme Leader" in the english dub for Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love.[3]
