Erich Vam Desler was the first and only Grand Duke of the Garmillas Grand Duchy. He was the head of the Desler family and the main architect of the unification of planet Garmillas under the Grand Duchy. He was among the first to discover that the planetary life of Garmillas was approaching it's end.
History[]
In 2170, Erich Vam Desler, head of the powerful Desler family, completed the unification of planet Garmillas into a single state. He founded the Garmillas Grand Duchy and was crowned Grand Duke.[3] He ruled the planet from his family's massive mansion in Baleras.[1]
In 2174,[3] he discovered that planet Garmillas was approaching the end of its planetary life and that in about a century, its core would collapse. Erich shared this secret information with his inner circle, which included several aristocrats who had fulfilled the Blood Oath, including his nephew and heir apparent, Mathius Desler. Erich reminded his entourage that the Garmillas were a pure-blooded people so narrowly adapted to the environment of their home planet that long-term settlement outside the home system would be extremely difficult. He listened as the others aired their ideas and worries, but his attention was drawn to a child who had sneaked into the room and eavesdropped on the meeting, who turned out to be Abelt Desler, Mathius's younger brother. As he had not fulfilled the ritual, Erich grimly accepted that the law prohibited Abelt's presence at the secret without exception, and he moved to execute the child. However, Mathius stopped the Grand Duke from drawing his sword and recommended bringing his younger brother into the circle by making him go through the ritual and swearing him to silence. Erich agreed to the alternative.[1] In the following years, Erich and his entourage hastily tried to build up the Grand Duchy's social system in preparation for the upcoming crisis[4] while also trying to find a way out of the situation.[5]
Soon after having been joined by Abelt in his council, he and a large group of noblemen embarked on a journey to Iscandar, where they met with the planet's Queen, Stasha.[6]
The Grand Duke attended the funeral of Mathius six years later after his elder nephew was killed in battle, silently watching as Mathius's mother, Adelcia, lost her mind due to the pain inducted by her son's death.[1] In 2178, Erich died, leaving Abelt as the only possible heir to the throne.[3] However, due to the young Desler's lack of popularity among the nobility, a civil war over the rights of succession erupted, and the Garmillas Grand Duchy collapsed. Abelt stepped up for reunification and fought in the civil war at the head of his faction.[7] In 2188,[3] he succeeded in reunifying the planet and declared the Greater Garmillan Empire.[1]
Years after his death, in 2205,[8] Stasha took the form of Erich in a vision while guiding Abelt through the Sanctel.[9]
Personality[]
Erich was a serious-minded ruler who was interested in the well-being of his people and the future of his country. He had great respect for the laws and traditions of Garmillas, being ready to execute his nephew Abelt once he was found spying on a secret meeting.[1]
