We humans of Earth have no intention of bending our knee to invaders. We crawled back up from the brink of ruin three years ago. We humans of Earth will never give in! We will fight, united to the end! For freedom and peace! For the future of our children!

—The First E.F.G. President[19]

Earthlings (Homo Sapiens), also sometimes referred to improperly as mankind,[20] and called Terons (TERON, Teron)[21] in Garmillas, are a human species which originated on planet Earth. They made first contact with an alien species for the first time in 2191 with the Greater Garmillan Empire, which sparked a devastating war that ruined the Earth's biosphere and decimated the planet's population. The conflict ended thanks to the aid of the Queen of Iscandar and, following a peace treaty with Garmillas and an alliance with the empire, the Earthlings rapidly rose to prominence in interstellar affairs.

Biology[]

Like all humans species Earthlings are bipedal, their skin colors range from fair[22] to dark tones[23] and they have red blood, much like that of the Zaltzi. The similarities between Earthlings and Zaltzi are such that individuals of both species have gotten confused for one another on some occasions[24][25], certain Earthlings have also been confused for Iscandarians.[26][25]

Earthlings that colonized the planet Mars are known as Marsnoids. They have distinguishing body features, such as their red eyes.[27] It's unknown whether these features were biologically engineered to better suit the alien environment, or were naturally evolved.[28]

The Earthlings' scientific name is Homo Sapiens.[29]

History[]

For more details, see Earth (2199), United Nations and Earth Federation (2199).

Origins and early conflicts[]

The Earthlings originated on planet Earth, after the ancient Archelias civilization seeded the word with the seeds of life.[30]

During their history, the Earthlings waged multiple wars amongst themselves, but following the end of World War II in 1945, no other global conflict would ever be fought on their planet. Despite this, the Earthlings encountered many difficulties in the following centuries, including explosive population growth, environmental destruction, economic disparity due to the concentration of wealth, and increasingly violent ideological, religious, and ethnic conflicts.[31]

In 2145, for the bicentennial anniversary of the end of World War II, various war relics were restored worldwide and then sunk in solemn cerimony. For the Far East, the Japanese battleship Yamato was chosen.[31]

First steps into space[]

By the 20th century, the Earthlings began to send manned missions into space, but the first permanent space colonies on Mars wouldn't be built until the early 22nd century.[31]

Two devastating conflicts that became known as the Inner Planetary Wars were fought between the Martian Autonomous Government and the Earth were fought between 2164 and 2183. They led to the abbandonment of all martian settlements and the forced rempatriation of all Marsnoids on Earth. The wars also led to the creation of the United Nations Cosmo Navy, a space navy founded under the United Nations Forces.[31]

The Great Garmillas War and beyond[]

An underground city in 2199

In 2191, the United Nations entered into contact with the Greater Garmillan Empire. The subsequent war would be the most devastating conflict in mankind's history, leading to the death of 70% of the total Earthling population. The Earthlings were forced to withdraw to underground cities by the constant planet bombing of Earth's surface, and with the contamination from alien plants spreading underground, experts theorized their cities' would fail to function in one year time, leading to the inevitable extinction of all Earthlings. At this time, plans for the Earthlings to abandon their home planet began to be put in place.[31][32][33][34]

In 2198, Iscandarian civilization sent an envoy to the planet offering a technology capable of restoring the world to its old blue self, the Cosmo Reverse System. The space battleship Yamato was built for this project and launched in February 2199. Its journey would start a series of events that ended the war with Garmillas. The Cosmo Reverse successfully restored the Earth, saving the Earthling race and beginning a new era of interstellar collaboration and Earthling prominence in interstellar affairs.[31][35][36][37]

Following the end of the conflict, the United Nations began to transition into a unified planetary government, the first in the planet's history, called the Earth Federation. While the process would take years, it would eventually be completed by January of 2205.[38][39] The new government also formed an alliance with the Greater Garmillan Empire, and together the two powers faced off against the Gatlantis Empire, which posed a threat to all human species and almost succeeded in enslaving the entirety of mankind.[31][40]

Culture and Society[]

Up until very recently, the Earthling race was not unified under a single political entity. While the United Nations, an international organization, existed to unite all the sovereign nation states of the Earthlings,[35] their society was still quite culturally divided, with conflicts based on ethnic, ideological and religious being rather frequent between the 20th and late 22nd century.[31]

The Earthling people have since united under a single federated nation, the Earth Federation.[38]

Technology[]

The Earthlings made their first contact with alien technology when an alien warship that crashlanded on Mars. The Martian Government studied the crashlanded ship in secret, and reverse engineered its tech to create the first Earthling space navy, the Martian Autonomous Government Space Navy, and with it, they waged two Inner Planetary Wars to obtain independence. The technology used by Mars was later also reverse engineered by the United Nations to create the United Nations Cosmo Navy. It's worth noting that the ships developed during the Inner Planetary Wars were the first Earthling ships to have inertia control and thus the capability of taking off horizontally, all previous ships, including those used for the migration to Mars, were only capable of taking off vertically.[31]

Following the end of the wars, the Earthlings continued to evolve their starships technology,[31] but by the start of the Great Garmillas War was still far inferior to that of the Imperial Garmillas Astro Fleet.[41] On some occasions the Earthlings used technology stolen from certain Garmillan ships to modify their own fleet.[42]

In year 2198, the Earth received technological support from Planet Iscandar, which gifted the Earth with plans to use Wave Motion energy to create a Wave Motion engine, in order to travel at FTL speed.[41] Earthling scientists also used the plans to create a powerful weapon known as a Wave Motion gun.[21] These weapons and technology would become common place among Earth's ships by year 2202.[43]

In 2199, the Earthling battleship Yamato travelled to Iscandar to obtain the Cosmo Reverse System, a device which capable of saving the Earth's biosphere, which had been ruined by the Garmillas's bombing.[35] The journey was successfull[44] but the application of the Cosmo Reverser caused the creation of a time fault underneath the planet's surface, which was transformed into a millitary factory by Earth's government, further increasing the Earthlings' technological capabilities.[45]

Around 2202, the Earth Federation's government began lifting the military's monopoly of interstellar travel and transport, and the first wave motion engine-equipped civilian cargoship set sail.[46]

In October 2205. the Earth Federation and the Greater Garmillan Empire held a technological exchange which led to the development of the Cosmo Hound, the first Earthling craft capable of dimensional diving.[47][48]

Information Technology and Artificial Intelligience[]

IT (Information Technology) rose to prominence in Earthling society in the beginning of the 21st century and it was later revolutionised in the 2050s during the second IT revolution, which in turn lead to the AI revolution in the 2080s. Previous predictions suggested that AI and humanity would eventually reach an interdependent symbiotic relationship, by the 2080s these predictions had become true. After 2100, Earthlings entered a time of "trust" with AI and took up a principle to no longer directly intervene in the autonomous development of computers. from then on, IT and AI technologies continued to evolve steadily up until 2199.[49] During the Garmillas War, robots were introduced in many facets of Earthling society to make up for the loss of human life. The AU Types were the most common robot at that time.[50] By the early 23rd century, quantum computers had become standard and widespread.[51]

Ginga's control AI

In 2203, with the Gatlantis invasion of the Solar system, the Earth Federation began to rely on AI in the military field extensively. Advanced artificial intelligence was developed to singlehandedly crew entire warships and to predict possible enemy movements or changes of tactics, limiting the human component. In accordance to Project G, for the survival of humankind, the Yamato-class ship Ginga's AI was to be granted complete control of its operations. Even following the scrapping of the Time Fault and the scaling down of the Earth's military complex between 2204 and 2205, new and more advanced AIs were developed. By October 2205, the battlecarrier Hyuga was equipped with top-of-the-line AU-19 robots.[52][53][54][55]

Communication systems[]

Technology built during the 21st century utilised cables laid down in deep underground earthquake-resistant tunnels such as the "Sugar Road", these systems remained the basis of communication technology on Earth. However, during the 22nd century, when Earthlings began colonising space, the development of these technologies began to change due to the thinner atmosphere of other planets. Thus. new communication networks differed from those on Earth’s environment and it became necessary for the hardware to adapt. As a result, communications technology developed in directions that differed from Earth’s.[56]

By 2199, Hyperspace communication had become the standard communication method employed by Earthling spaceships.[57] In late 2199, Ensign Yoshikazu Aihara and Fumihiko Sano began building a new hyperspace communication network using Garmillas hyperspace relays.[44][58]

Transportations and ground vehicles[]

Earthlings used various types of wheeled vehicles throughout the underground cities during the Great Garmillas War, most notably artight lifts. Following the end of the conflict, they began using hovercars similar to those used on Garmillas.[38][41]
