The Earth Federation Cosmo Fleet (E.F. Cosmo Fleet) or Earth Defense Fleet for short,[6] previously called the Combined Cosmo Fleet[1] is the complex of the various fleets of the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy active by at least 2198 following its reorganization during the Great Garmillas War.[1][9]

The Earth Federation Cosmo Fleet is the main force of the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy, composed of the various fleets operated by the organization.[1] It was initially known as the Combined Cosmo Fleet until the Earth Federation began fielding new warship classes in December 2202.[10][11] It's led by a flagship: the Kirishima until its decommissioning,[1] and the Andromeda from it's launch on December 2, 2202[11] until its sinking at the Decisive Battle off Mars.[12][10]
It's organized under Fleet Command and headed by the Commander-in-Chief.[9][4]

The Combined Cosmo Fleet was created either prior or during the Great Garmillas War, uniting all fleets in the United Nations Cosmo Navy under a single command.[1][9] Admiral Juzo Okita served as Commander-in-Chief of the Cosmo Fleet for the duration of the war until his death in late 2199.[4]

The Cosmo Navy passed under the jurisdiction of the Earth Federation after the end of the conflict, and the new government drafted the Wave-motion Gun fleet plan to built new warships equipped with DWMIEs. After the debut of the Andromeda, the Cosmo Navy's new flagship, the Cosmo Fleet officially changed its name to Earth Federation Cosmo Fleet.[10][12][13] Captain Osamu Yamanami, captain of Andromeda, was also the new Commander-in-Chief of the fleet.[7][6]
After the end of the Gatlantis Campaign, construction of Wave-motion Gun-equipped vessels was stopped and the military entered a period of reform. Yamanami, whose rank was peculiarly low for the position he held, was offered numerous promotions, but he refused them all. Feeling he was to blame for the Earth's actions during the conflict, he resigned from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the E.F. Cosmo Fleet and was replaced by another officer. He instead took command of the overall Cosmo Navy and focused on the training of new recruits.[6][14]

- Following the Great Garmillas War, the E.F. Cosmo Fleet paints squadron leader ships in navy blue. This paintjob is said to be inherited from the one used for anti-mars weapons during the Second Inner Planetary War.[15][16]
- The Japanese name "地球連邦航宙艦隊 Chikyū renpō kōchū kantai uses the term "航宙", often officially translated as "astro".[17] However "Battle off the Coast of Saturn - Gather the Wave Motion Gun Fleet!" gives the official English translation of the name, "Earth Federation Cosmo Fleet".
